Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 Won't wifi sync iPhone

Since updating to Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 itunes no longer recognizes either my iphone or ipad via wi-fi.

I have plugged them in and toggled the checkbox to no avail.

I have even restored my iphone. No deal.

If I plug them in, then I can sync. But even with the box checked to sync over wi-fi, as soon as I unplug the phone, it loses connecton.

I have also rebooted the phone and restarted my computer.

The sync over wi-fi opton is completely unavailable.

I may have found the fix. At least it's working for me for the time being. Create a brand new network "Location" in the "Network" pane of "System Preferences". It can't be a duplicate of your current "Location" (I tried that); it must be a brand new location:

You're a genius: this fixed it for me.

Now, on to trying to work out why Spotlight re-indexes my machine every time I login.

Thanks, you're a lifesaver 🙂

I'm having the same problem as everyone else, it seems: Using OS X 10.9 Mavericks on a late 2012 iMac: After upgrading to Mavericks, my iDevices stopped showing up in iTunes, making WiFi sync/backup impossible -- and when checking the Settings -> WiFi Sync on my iPhone, the "sync now" option is greyed out and says "Sync will resume when [your computer] is available." The iPhone and iMac are on the same network, so no reason the iMac shouldn't be available. Having the exact same problem with my wife's iPhone too.

I've tried rebooting my Airport Extreme; rebooting the iMac; rebooting my iPhone; reset the network settings on the iPhone. I've upgraded to iTunes 11.1.3. I've filed a complaint with Apple.com/Feedback. And i've tried Steve's fix of adding a new Location under Network Settings in the Mac -- all without any luck -- still can't get any iDevices in my house to show up in iTunes on the Mac.

Such a bummer 😟

RE:

1) Quit iTunes if it's running.

2) Select "System Preferences..." from the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen.

2) Click once on "Network".

3) Write down or take screenshots of your network settings. [beyond the scope of these instructions]

4) Click on the "Location:" drop-down menu and select "Edit Locations...".

5) Click the "+" button to create a new location. Name it and click "Done".

6) Configure your network settings [beyond the scope of these instructions] and click "Apply".

7) Open a web browser and visit a web site to make sure your new network settings are working.

8) Open iTunes and watch your iOS devices appear again.

Go into System Preferences --> Sharing, and change the name of your computer to something else.. I used something that didn't have any spaces just dashes, letters and numbers. I got a message from my iOS devices saying my Mac under the new share name is being authorized for iMessage and my 2 iOS devices instantly started to show up in iTunes.

I tried this in iTunes 11.1.3(8) should be the newest version on Mavericks.

Just wanted to add that I'm having exactly the same issue with 2010 MBP and iPhone 4s.

Everything is up-to-date - including iTunes is - and I've tried the fixes suggested here. I've also tried the set-up in another WiFi enviornment (diffrent router, ext.) to no avail. Synch works with USB but the phone just doesn't show up in iTunes with WiFi.

I can understand that time is needed for the issue to be fixed, but at this satge Apple should at least be acknowledging the problem.

The problem is this has been going on, on and off, for a long time. Everytime a new version of iTunes or OS X or iOS is released we start seeing this issue. I think Apple has had plenty of time to review/fix this issue once and for all.

Folks, you could try this - it worked a charm (so far) for me.

Go into System Preferences / Network.

Choose your ethernet and/or wifi connection.

Go to "Advanced". If you're working on wifi settings, you'll need to pick the TCP/IP tab from the next window. If you're working on Ethernet settings, it should default to the TCP/IP tab.

If IPV6 is set to "off", change it to "Automatically" or put in "Manual" settings as you prefer. Apply the changes. Close iTunes & restart the Mac. Open iTunes once you're restarted and, if you're like me, your wifi sync devices will show up very quickly in the side bar.

Sync still seems to pause for a while on last step, but it has not yet failed on iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, 4S & 5.

Steve's earlier post led me down this path and prompted me to check this. I have a vague recollection that I forced IPV6 to "off" to overcome problems with prior upgrades to OS X and/or iTunes.

Hope your frustration comes to an end as, hopefully, mine has. I'm optimistic because I've been playing around for 2 days with variations of all the suggestions on this discussion. I'll post back if, as for some others, this fix only works temporarily. Good luck!

RE: RKCOJOHN --- THIS DID IT!!!

Tried the other tips that seemed to be working for others to no avail.

RKCOJOHN's tip did the trick, finally.

Like you, I had turned off IPv6 a while back in response to another tip about an issue I've since forgotten. If it is, in fact, required now for WiFi Sync, you'd think it would be an easy enough thing that Apple could check for when you enable it it iTunes. Display a pop-up or something, i.e. "To enable WiFi Sync of your device, you must have IPv6 enabled in your Network Settings. Click here to be taken to System Preferences."

If you are having this issue, try this and report back. Let's see if we can isolate it.

Nov 9, 2013 11:02 AM in response to Matthew Rosen

Regrettably the "turn on IPv6" trick didn't work for me.

I already had IPv6 turned on to Automatic -- so I tried toggling it on and off and rebooting -- but there was no change.

I wonder if this iPhone-iTunes WiFi connection problem is at all related to the other SMB problems Mac OS X has been having since launching Mavericks. There are a lot of reports of people having trouble connecting to various NAS drives and network drives via SMB with Mavericks; and also reports of trouble connecting back to Macs from network devices (e.g., Boxee users can't browse the media on their Macs anymore via SMB). I think with Mavericks Apple started using their latest custom SMB implementation for all connections -- so that could include these iPhone-iTunes writeless connects. Potentially all of these various problems could be symptoms of Apple's buggering of SMB.

Arrgh - so frustrating. I've also tried SMBup and some other tweaks to see if that would help, but no luck. Hopefully Apple releases a bug fix and SMB overhaul soon.

Nov 9, 2013 12:32 PM in response to Lukecro

I haven't experienced any problems with SMB. I have an older MacBook Pro 2010 and an newer MacBook Air 2012, I'm only experiencing this problem on the MacBook Pro 2010. I'm using an iPhone 5 and an iPad Mini with the MBP 2010 and just a iPad Mini with the MacBook Air... and the problems only seem to be with the latest version of iTunes the version before 11.1.3(8) worked flawlessly with my devices atleast from my experience.

The MacBook Air works fine with the MacBook Air.

Hi LukeCro.

I hear your "aaaarrrggh"!

One other suggestion...have you checked to see that IPv6 is enabled on your routers and base stations?

On my Airport Express, which runs the LAN, it is set to "link-local only".

Have you restarted your routers & base stations (sorry, haven't read through the entire thread to check the gear you're running and the steps you've tried so far)?
