Hi all,
Thanks for the acknowledgement, Makushla, glad my earlier advice to revert back to Mac OS X Mountain Lion with instructions was helfpul.
Mochhhh: Good idea to stay on topic. Thanks, because some of the comments on here seem to be pretty pointless misdirections.
Now, further to my previous comments, I've got some more thoughts on the whole dilemma/problem of Endnote X5 not working with Mavericks.
The best alternative for me is to complete my current 100 000 word monograph in Pages 4.3 on Mountain Lion. Here is a concise assessment of the problem from King's College London: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/library/help/bibsoftware/endnote/updates.aspx
Basically, then, Endnote X5 on Mavericks seems doomed beause Thomson Returers has the 'convenient' solution of up-selling individual customers to X7.
So what's my alternative?
In future, I think I'll be switching to Zotero. It seems to me that this freeware is quite capable and ungoverned by Thomson Reuters' slow and sloppy updates.
I've researched the following method to get my Endnote bibliography into Zotero and hope this helps other academics/pro writers on this forum: http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/importing_records_from_endnote
I now have a functioning Zotero library but I'm not sure how Zotero works on Mavericks. If anyone else does, please do offer some feedback of your experience.
Best wishes to the community here.
Edit: Zotero/Mavericks seem to be okay so far...https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/32381/mac-os-x-109-mavericks/
