Mavericks Dock: Change color

The new bright side dock in mavericks is ugly and hard for the eye. There MUST be a solution to change the white background to something more easy for the eye.

(I don't mention the new ugly calendar and contacts because I hardly use them, but the new Apple Design Team seems to think that white is a reasonable color for an app background - they are obviously wrong) 😮

I didn't mean to suggest that it being from a Japenese developer would make any difference...just specifying which plugin I was referring to! Another question: if it does cause problems, merely deleting the BlackDock plugin would stop the program from injecting the code into the dock.app, and everything would go back to its default, right?

it's got to make you wonder about apple when something so basic is overlooked. the dock background is TERRIBLE, it's too light colored. i can't see my icons. also, my MacAlly keyboard power button stopped working. my apps are taking double triple time to launch. i did do a TimeMachine just before upgrading to Mav. after using Mav i was about to restore to Mountain Lion. for some reason i called apple first, which i found out they recommend you go into the apple to restore. you have do wipe out your HD, Format it, before you can restore TimeMachine using a different OS version. i have a 300 mile (one way) drive.

I see that Apple has seeded a Mavericks update to developers, asking them to concentrate on graphics. While this gives a slight hope that a fix the Dock is in the works, does anyone know how to also let developers know of the Dock issue, so as to get to Apple also through them with the request to fix the Dock?

Of course we all did already send Apple the feedback on this, right?!?!?

even better, if we would ( could ) discuss this matter to the grounds, meaning analizing what is behind your post which was causing the backslash for you "corvairkid" it would look even worse.

that post, in other words tells much more then just an opinion, but that might be a subconcious mind thing, you know the one from JC, they don't know what they are doing, which is again the most friendly and optimistic assumption :-)

ronzue is a 100% right and just expressed something that douzens were probably thinking.

Look; regardless of what people do and don't like about OSXM, this is not the thread for that kind of discussion. This is about altering the bright white background of the dock.

On that topic, I'd like to think that the methods used to remove the blur layer of the side dock could be applied to alter it further, but I have no idea what sort of commands to use; never poked around in terminal that much. Any idea a) who discovered that and b) how they came about doing so? I theorize we could keep pushing and do more but I can't seem to find anything else on the web.

Please check out http://spyresoft.com/. It allows for a completely black dock and also a totally customizable one where you can choose any color or image for the background. It's free for black and only a marginable fee ($8) for totally TRANSPARENT or any color/image you wish.

A great purchase and one that you will not regret as the developer has promised to make it upgradable to future versions of OS X!

Honestly, I NEVER buy software, but this is something that will continue to be supported in future versions and one that I now understand that I cannot live without. If you've been using Mirage or something else in Mountain Lion or SL or whatever version of Mac you have, this is what you need for Mavericks!

Please support Byran in his reverse-engineering of the Maverick's Dock.app! It's a worthy cause and one which you will not regret. 🙂

This is NOT a system hack Peter! It is a custom-designed application that allows you to customize your Dock as you see fit. Many hours were spent reverse-engineering this app so that users can change the background to anything they wish. This includes color AND transparency! I am not the developer, only a registered user, but wanted to let everyone here know that it is available for Mavericks.
