Mavericks Dock: Change color

The new bright side dock in mavericks is ugly and hard for the eye. There MUST be a solution to change the white background to something more easy for the eye.

(I don't mention the new ugly calendar and contacts because I hardly use them, but the new Apple Design Team seems to think that white is a reasonable color for an app background - they are obviously wrong) 😮

Could you make a right point arrow for those of us who have the Dock on the left side. The arrow you provided works better than the line, but it is skewed a bit because it is pointing up.

I love the arrow you made but I don't have any PNG file manipulator to twist the image 90 degrees.

Thanx.

I've made a complete (new) collection of al the indicators. So wether you prefer the side dock or the bottom one, wether you're on retina or non-retina. I made the triangle for the bottom dock a little bit smaller. The old ones are still available because it's quoted many times...

The Bottom Dock

The Side-Dock

How to:

Navigate to: System -> Library -> CoreServices -> Dock

Open Dock with "CTRL" (or right mouse click) and select "Show Package Contents"

Navigate to: Contents -> Resources. Scroll until you see a set of "indicator_ ..." files

Make a copy of the files for save keeping!!!

Replace with the files you've downloaded (identification required)

Restart, Logout or Terminal: killall Dock

Actually there are file names like indicator-side-medium.png and indicator-side-medium@2x.png.

So after getting my head out of my a**, I used Preview on your indicator-medium@2x.png to rotate your arrow to point to the right. Then replaced Apple's indicator-side-medium.png with your now modified indicator-medium@2x.png that has the arrow pointing right and this is what I get:

It is a bit oversized, but I like it, even if nobody else does. And I have you to thank, jrebergen, for creating those beautiful arrow images. THANK YOU I shout from California.

Is it Black or is it Transparent? Looks like if you want it black you need a black wallpaper??

Does it really look better than white?

Do I really want to load an "unfinished beta" plug-in from an unknown source?

I'm pretty much a rookie at this stuff but I followed your directions but when I tried to drag your files into the Resources folder, I authenticate, I choose to replace the current ones (I backed up the originals) but when Finder starts copying, it copies 1 byte then hangs. I cannot stop the copying either. I have to restart Finder to get control back. Am I missing something? Thanks
