The new bright side dock in mavericks is ugly and hard for the eye. There MUST be a solution to change the white background to something more easy for the eye.
(I don't mention the new ugly calendar and contacts because I hardly use them, but the new Apple Design Team seems to think that white is a reasonable color for an app background - they are obviously wrong) 😮

Although I have no problem with the dock as it is...I think it would be nice to have some more options.
I have left feedback with Apple on this issue.
Like most people I was turned off by the earlier hyperbolic posts about the Spyresoft dockmod.com version 1 software, that didn't really do too much.
I checked out version 2 recently however, and for $8 you can change your dock's background color to whatever you want, change the opacity, the border, etc independently, and can do this to both the sides and/or bottom position. It works fine and I'm happy with it, now the dock looks like it did before.

I agree with all the comments concerning the changes to the Dock.
I found a third party app that allows you to customize the Dock called DocMod by SpyreSoft. The cost is $8.00 and it comes with several themes, but you can make your own. I personally love the transparent background on my vertical dock. Very close to to Mtn Lion. It has a trial version. Very much worth checking out.

Dev should get this on the AppStore and make a bit of cash... (I'd buy that for a Dollar😉, maybe the 66,500 people who viewed this thread would too....)
Maybe even better than the 10.8 transparent 2d dock, because this is missing the white border around the icons.

I'm happy with the Transparent dock in side mode. One slight caveat. I tried to install 10.8 No Border.bundle, but could not get rid of the border. All in all, fantastic work.
Hey apple, your new dock is wack! I dotn understand why companies have to go from cool functions to standard, ugly or malfunctioning ones. Updates are to make things better, not to lower their standard!

I tried the fix in OS X 10.9.4 and cannot get the black triangle to display in the dock. I wonder if there is a conflict with the cDock?
Bingo.... just found an update to the cDock and the black triangles came back
I know this is 8 months since you posted this, but I wanted to thank you! The indicator lights being barely (if at all) visible were driving me nuts. Your simple fix is the answer to my dreams. Thank you!
