Mavericks Dock: Change color

The new bright side dock in mavericks is ugly and hard for the eye. There MUST be a solution to change the white background to something more easy for the eye.

(I don't mention the new ugly calendar and contacts because I hardly use them, but the new Apple Design Team seems to think that white is a reasonable color for an app background - they are obviously wrong) 😮

I've see this sort of thing with other products. It appears as if no one tested the dock on the left and right at all. I to am a left side dock user for quite sometime. I tried to put it back at the bottom to easy the eye strain, but I can't handle it, I lose to much vertical screen area. I would venture a guess that the beta team has no backbone whatsoever. Almost certainly Steve would of noticed it and never shipped it like that. I really miss TinkerTool, that 2D option was what I used for quite sometime.

I was exploring the Dock bundlle contents but I didn't see any obvious way to force a change. Hoping someone else does.

Plus 1 on this. Ugh, what a poor choice, they must all have white desktops in Cupertino or something.

Seriously, it's painful to squint at. Left feedback, can't believe there's not even a plist option that could be changed from the command line to revert to the "old" Dock.

So far, this is the only real flaw in an otherwise great update.

KiKite,

The dock is now rendered differently than in ML and previous releases from Apple. There is no way to change the color of the dock, there are no 3rd party apps that will accomplish this now, and perhaps not even in the near future.

If you read the MacRumors forum, the dock has been talked and complained about a lot.

The dock is drawn, which is different than the way it was rendered before Mavericks.

There are a lot of people in all Mac forums that I know of who are complaining about the same issue.

well ... i am downgrading ... the whole upgrade is simply **** ... no new features worth even thinking about let alone having ... design is bad ... yes apple lets start making the first steps of OSx look like the very successful and 'non-glitching' iOS7 ... brilliant stuff ... so here is a little amusement for us all ... the email i just crafted that got send as my feedback ... i have to say ... when i started writing it i thought that i will get even more ****** off by the end of it but in fact i have a smile on my face now. Will downgrade and not bother with this groundbreaking release aka the 'gamechanger of everything, again' OS X ...

n'joy

Ah ... yes thanks Apple for the great new upgrade. Great features. I barely had any sleep last night because i installed the upgrade and couldn't really fall asleep because of being completely swept off my feet by this absolutely marvellous upgrade.

What an innovation. What a wonder of the world. Engineering masterpiece.

Of course needless to say this changes everything, again.

And what about that Dock eh?

Btw did you forget to wipe the **** off the software after the developer dumped on it? Clearly you have.

I have never seen a worse upgrade of a software and i work in the Software business, i have seen some clangers believe you me.

Mavericks is such a bad release that it gives Microsoft Millennium ME a run for its money. Mind you the poo-poo that Bill Gates and Co excreted upon the masses, called Millennium Edition was nearly 14 years ago. Thought that it would take a monumental effort into someone repeating that famous feat of 1999 but clearly you have worked hard on this one. Salute.

No new features worth having. And don't even try to mention the endless capabilities of the iBooks. Absolutely revolutionary work. I think i see the Nobel prize for ‘**** for brains’ being shipped to you as i type. Ibooks, because everyone i know reads books on their computer. As opposed to the medieval method where we used to hold the book or read it on your phone, or iPad or whatever. Unless you are trying to convince the masses that having multiple devices that you sell do the same thing is actually good and off corse it is not only good but it ‘changes everything, again'. iBooks. Utterly pointless.

Newsflash ... Upgrades are released in order to either 'fix' things, introduce new functionality or generally 'make a software piece better'. I guess you didn't attend that meeting did you.

Ok lovely. Im off to restore your old OS. I was wondering that there must be a reason why this OS was offered as a free upgrade. Rightyho.

Keep on the amazing progress you make. That white Dock ... genius. Simply Einstein level stuff. Love your work.

Sincerely Yours,

Mr. Petrov.

P.S. Seriously …i have to ask … i cannot resist … did none of you lot thought this might be a problem? You basically made Widows look good. Neve thought that is possible to be honest but as we already said, some exceptional efforts have been 'invested' on your side in this groundbreaking ‘change everything’ game changer that you call Mavericks. Just a piece of advise. Next time you have a marvellous idea, you know, like that genius effort with the Dock, right? So the next time you have such a brilliant idea please spare us. And spare yourself of it. At the end of the day we all want that Nobel prize you know. Its not fair. You guys have all the Genuises working for you.

*standing ovation*

I can assure you that hundreds of reports were submitted on this one and are still being submitted today by the team, but Apple chose to ignore them.
