Mavericks Dock: Change color

The new bright side dock in mavericks is ugly and hard for the eye. There MUST be a solution to change the white background to something more easy for the eye.

(I don't mention the new ugly calendar and contacts because I hardly use them, but the new Apple Design Team seems to think that white is a reasonable color for an app background - they are obviously wrong) 😮

I have always kept the dock on the right because having paid for a display, I don't plan to sacrifice 1-2 cms of it at the bottom.

More: the only things I ever see in the dock are the Finder, the Trash, and the applications that are running. I don't put anything else there.

I've always hated the dock and not used it, ever since it came out. I access all applications and documents by other means.

Why does it seem that as OSx seems to advance that the interface gets suckier and suckier. I mean, grey for the dock background color and Top Sites background color?. ***? Seriously Apple?.

After all that THAT's the best you could come up with?.

Are they farming the testing out to kindergardens or pre-schoolers?.

Please Apple, put a little more effort into the interface aesthetics.

How anybody in a managerial capacity actually looked at this and said "Yep, ok. That looks great, good job team", and passed it for production is mindboggling.

It appears as if no one tested the dock on the left and right at all. I to am a left side dock user for quite sometime...I would venture a guess that the beta team has no backbone whatsoever

I can assure you that hundreds of reports were submitted on this one and are still being submitted today by the team, but Apple chose to ignore them.

Who knows at this point. I've had it set to change the background every half hour for ages, but now that's almost disturbing. Just to cope with it I have been forced to remove all my dark backgrounds. The next release will likely be deemed OSX Chameleon, so advandace you can't see anything. 😁

I've done the terminal command that removes the heavy Gaussian blur effect from the side-mounted dock and it seems to have upped the transparency a bit as well. I can't recall what the stuff I typed was (something about mirror and kill dock I think?) but it's all over the internet.

It's still a white base color but it's must less intrusive... at least it's a temporary fix.
