I can confirm that also SPSS 20 works correctly under Maverick.
Best,
Mario
I have done everything folks said and still am getting the error message when I start up SPSS ver 21. I have reinstalled both SPSS and Java and still don't have a solution to the problem.
I added Java and also had to run thru the SPSS License Authorization process and re enter my authorization code. All is well now. You can find the License Authorization in launch pad -- either under IBM or SPSS.
I have tried installing SPSS 21, reinstalled 22. For both of these I can run one syntax file and then the next comand I run SPSS crashes. If anyone has any thoughts on this I would appreciate it!
No kidding, its been like this for 20 years, even before you could run (real) SPSS on PC. (Mac was always capable of running the full version.) Todd, you could send them a memo, but I doubt that anyone would read it. Still, I appreciate your post (I have not had time to upgrade to Maverics yet).
SPSS v22 for Mac works just fine in Mavericks.
You might need to reinstall Java as Mavericks uninstalls it. See my earlier post in this thread on how to reinstall Java.
Uninstalling SPSS, installing latest version of Java, rebooting, and reinstalling SPSS 22 on my iMac (Mavericks) did not do the trick. Simple analyses were performed, but more intensive processes such as bootstrapping resulted in an immediate crash of SPSS 22.
This is what did the trick for me: adjust the 'look and feel' to 'SPSS Standard' instead of 'Macintosh' (Go to Preferences, General).
Now it works just fine... (Well except for the fact that I have to force quit SPSS to get it to shut down.) When will IBM release a fix?
I had the licensing error and finally found a solution that worked! This this from IBM (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21611352):
Problem(Abstract)
Launching Statistics on a Apple MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mac mini using Thunderbolt Technology.
‘Error # 2072
There was an unanticipated problem with the license for this product.
Execution of this command stops. >Specific symptom number: 4’
Symptom
Launching Statistics on a Apple MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mac mini using Thunderbolt Technology.
----------------------------------------
Pop-Up Entitled: IBM SPSS Statistics 20 or 21 (depending on installed version of Statistics)
.........................
'There was an unanticipated problem with the license for this product.
Specific symptom number: 4'
Followed by an [OK] button.
----------------------------------------
Error Message in Statistics Output Window (.spv):
.........................
>Error # 2072
>There was an unanticipated problem with the license for this product.
>Execution of this command stops. >Specific symptom number: 4
Cause
Booting the Mac OS X ThunderBolt Monitor versus the Laptop Monitor uses a different lock code of 10-, therefore the device used to activate the license is the one that the license is tethered to.
Resolving the problem
Changing the locking code from using a "10-" to a "4-".
Depending of the version of Statistics installed:
You will need to know the path of where IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 is installed.
The Default path is:
/Applications/IBM/SPSS/Statistics/20/SPSSStatistics.app/Contents/bin
--OR--
You will need to know the path of where IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 is installed.
The Default path is:
/Applications/IBM/SPSS/Statistics/21/SPSSStatistics.app/Contents/bin

It worked for me when the others did not! Good luck
I have not been able to open SPSS 22 since installing Mavericks. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling SPSS, reinstalling the latest version of Java, and have had assistance from IBM. Nothing has worked so far. When I try to open SPSS the icon just continues bouncing...no error message and I can't open the program to look at settings. Anyone have any ideas of how to fix?
