I have been trying to download Maverick since yesterday and nothing is happening?? My computer is totally compatible. I have logged out of App store, many a time. Rebooted my computer, many a time. Each time I have done it and signed back into App store to try and download Maverick......nothing happens!!

Any answers or suggetions??

You can see a progress bar under the Mavericks icon in Launchpad. It will be the last icon on your last page on Launchpad. It will be a gray circle with and "X" in it.

Note that Mavericks is a HUGE file (5.9GB) and takes hours if not days to download. Progress can be very slow. It may take seveal hours before you can see the progress bar change from a dot to an elongated dot. Eventually it will become a growing bar.

How fast your download goes depends, of course, on the speed of your internet connection and how busy the servers are.

FY: I am upgrading from 10.7.5.

Don't give up! Open Activity Monitor and look at the Netwok monitor. You should be able to verify that a lot of data is being read in. That, the ...downloading.. indicator in App Store, and a slowly growing .pkg file were the ONLY clues. Yeah, not user-friendly.

In 10.6.8, the .pkg file was growing in User->(me)-> Library->Application Support->App Store. When the download completed, that file disappeared and the installer was in Applications.

thank you so much for your encouragement - i couldn't see anything i have OS X 10.6 desk top - so i turned it all off - now i turn it back on and there is the X in the dock saying paused so i resumed it - i have fast broadband but it says on the network moniter that 245mb has been recieved - so this is going to take forever :-( but - at least i can see now that it is actually happening - having no sign that anything was happening makes ya think nothing is ..so thank you very much for your expereince :-)

My God I've seen DOS installations that are more friendly!

This is pretty bad... it looks like it just hangs and hangs... at least show SOME kind of relevant indicator that it is doing something.

Apple, did you completely skip usability testing? Any tester worth their salt would be screaming in pain with this user experience.

Making matters worse, because it looks like it's hung up, users start doing things to get it unstuck (rebooting, clicking around, surfing the 'net for hacking answers, etc.) This, in turn, causes more problems, because an interrupted installation really _is_ stuck!

User Experience Grade: D... I expect more from you.
