10.9 (Mavericks) External Display Problem

Recently I made the upgrade to OS X 10.9 and now I start to having problems with the resolution of my sceen. I have a LG Flatron E2250V and it work perfectly in OS X 10.8.3, the recomend resolution for this display is 1920x1084 but right now the system only give me 1600x1200 option, thereby is in a wrong frecuency for my screen.

About 3 month ago I try to upgrade the sistem to OS X 10.8.4 and I had the same problem.

Old MacBook pro, bought in 07. Running 10.9

Trying to connect my LG tv as a monitor via VGA.

Whenever I try to plug this in my MacBook monitor goes blank and the tv doesn't detect a signal. I press command,F2 to bring my laptop display back, but then my cursor is nowhere to be found and the keyboard is unresponsive. If command,F2 doesn't work then I have unplug the external monitor, which signs me out of my profile....

If the keys are unresponsive, I have to hard reboot, but if I leave the monitor connected it never loads..

Any help?

Solved a few of my previous problems but ran into others in the process. I had mirroring enabled when my DVI adapter was plugged in which resulted in the blank screen on the MacBook, solved by pressing F7 to turn it off.

Old MacBook pro, bought in 07. Running 10.9

Trying to connect my LG tv as a monitor via a legacy DVI to Video adapter.

My tv doesn't detect a signal and whenever I turn on mirror display my MacBook's display goes blank and nothing works. Also my MacBook doesn't detect any other displays (but I don't think it should with the way in connected).

Another thing, when I have my DVI to Video adapter in when I turn the MacBook on, it never gets past the boot-up screen

Any help?

Hi

I experienced the black screen issue today.

I tried everything I found on various forums but nothing worked.

I then tried to find and remove the display plist files from my preferences directory and then rebooted.

It immediately worked.

Surprisingly I couldn't find these files in the trash and I didn't find new ones in the ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost directory.

You should be able to find them by searching "display" in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost

I hope this will help others.

Hi,

thank you for your answer.

I tried holding the power button briefly, but it didnt work.

Maybe I didn't push the button at the right time…

Could you tell me a bit more about the right timing ?

Or is it the process to reset the SMC ?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

(Select "Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own")

Thanks

hi Toitoinou,

thanks for your feedback

find and remove the display plist files from my preferences directory and then rebooted.

So you went here

~/Library/Preferences/ByHost directory

and deleted all files which names includes " display " ?

I just want to be sure before erasing the wrong file !

I find 6 files, one of which ends in " .plist.lockfile "

Did you erase all of these files then restart, and everything was fine ?

The 10.9.1 Maverick update did not fix the problem with the Quato 242ex Monitor. The native resolution of 1920*1200 is still not possible. No ALT key or Mini Display Port solves the problem. As an graphic-designer and illustrator I can’t work with this wrong resolution 1080p or 1080i because it has the wrong proportions.

When you solve this problem?

Why we don’t get a «expert mode» in the display menu to use all resolutions possible for those who knows the native resolution? Automatic resolutions only make sense, when they are correct!

With OSX 10.6 it works, with OSX 10.7 it works, with OSX 10.9 it did’nt work. Why?
