After downloading OS X Mavericks, I can now no longer access any of Apple Applications

After downloading OS X Mavericks, I can now no longer access any of Apple Applications that need internet access such as Safari, Itunes Store, App Store, and Mail. Google Chrome works just fine but I need to be able to access these other apps. When I open Safari, part of the loading bar will loard then stop. The Itunes Store just says "Itunes Store". The App Store just says has the apps logo. None of my new mail will load. What can I do to solve this problem? Google Chrome works just fine but none of my Apple applications work any longer. I have a 2009 Macbook which was on the approved list of computers that could support Mavericks.

petermac87 & cnw91-

my apologies to any and all, that were upset with me posting the reviews about the problems with maverick.

honestly, i meant no disprespect to anyone (of the apple community).

for the record, i have been a huge apple fan/user for EONS.

the reason i actually posted those articles was perhaps to help others, like myself, in perhaps learning to wait before upgrading anything right away the next time. i have rarely had serious issues with prior upgrades, but this maverick has certainly sent many of my apple devices into turmoil.

i too would love to hear from anyone who has actual solutions to the problems.

problems i have encountered were- original loss of wifi and communication with time capsule/time machine for back up. this seemed to resolve itself after i rebooted (ie unpluged ac cord from outlet, watied 30 seconds, replugged in). time machine booted up and wifi seemed to have worked.

but, after having synced my iphone5- the sync doesn't "finish"

and now i'm having itunes issues (as others have posted). seems to have difficulty in finding itunes library, and then as i go to shutdown itunes, screen disappers, but now there's a delay in the itunes icon going away.

as i stated in other posts, i can only hope the geniuses at the genius bar can help me with some of these problems.

but again, my sincere apology to anyone i may have upset by posting those articles. as i said, honestly the intent was NOT to bash apple.

i just hope there is an easy fix for all of us.

regards,

anthony

No need to apologise. Having issues after new OSX installs is very frustrating. Moreso when you see so may having no issues at all. In my case, I hardly notice any difference to Mountain Lion. In performance, speed or stability. Only that I had to upgrade Little Snitch, which I should have done earlier anyway. So finding an 'easy fix' is relevant to each individuals problem. The OP here has issues with connecting online. Others with HDs showing as damaged. Others with certain Apps not working. Very few with all of these. Therefore each user with issues needs to look closely at the posts relevant to their problem and not go on an all out attack on Mavericks as being corrupt or unusable, as that is just a small minority opinion (looks bigger here because it is a Troubleshooting forum, so you won't see much positive!). Also keep in mind that other users here (we are not Apple) are still learning about Mavericks as well, seeing that it has only been out for under a week.

So basically, yes, some users will have some issues, but they are generally fixable and usually relate to Third-Party installs or failing hardware.

Also using someone else's thread for different problem solving can most often end in confusion, and therefore it is recommended to start your own thread, even if you think your problem is similar, because most often it is not.

Cheers and Good Luck

I have a MBP Retina w/16GB RAM. I upgraded to Maverick a few days ago and had the same symptoms described in the original post. My Safari, App Store, Evernote, Outlook 2011 were acting very strange. The Safari app wouldn't connect to any website. Chrome and Firefox worked. Outlook remained in a hung state while attempting to syncrhonize with the server. After thinking about the symptoms it became clear that this was more of a networking issue with a proxy. In Windows I have seen this with proxy configurations. Chrome uses a separate proxy than windows. For most other applications, they follow the Internet Exploer proxy configurations. I found that was my issue. The apps that couldn't talk to the Internet were using the default proxy configuation option configured for the interface. Inside System Preferences --> Network-->Wifi--> Advanced--> Proxies. The "Auto Proxy Discovery" was enabled. I cleared that option and all applications worked immediately. I hope this helps others.

Hello,

Please look at my thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5500446?tstart=0

I have tried a "clean install" after formatting the HD. Proxies were set right (auto detection not clicked, etc). But, iCloud, AppStore etc. still would not work. iMac and MacBook air (two, one upgraded from Lion and one from Mountain lion) has problem. The MacBook Pro works fine. My Lion backup in Time machine got corrupt. So, I am stuck. Sites like Aplle, REI would load fine. Google gets stuck. Cannot set System Preferences > Internet Accounts for iCloud, Google. They keep rotating and then hangs. I have to Force Quit. Trying to login to iCloud does not work. It is really frustrating right now.

I have still not heard back from the technician who said he had to see an engineer after trying everything to get my Apple apps to work. He did have me set up a guest account during that session and everything works fine It has to be something in my user account, information, whatever, I have no idea what. So for now I use the gues account and have to open other apps from the app folder, pictures, etc. It's a real pain and I am still hoping for the answer to get my Mac and the user account and apps to work properly. It was not a Network problem for me and nothing anyone has tried or suggested anywhere has helped me. I will stick with the "guest" user acct. at this point until I can't stand it any longer. The thought of more hours and trying to get my apps etc from the backup back onto my my Mac or reinstalled is a daunting thought, and right now undergoing my illness is flaring up and not making it easy to spend as many hours, or weeks? as I have done sitting here too long to try to get to my work. Any further findings or answers would be much appreciated. Thank You.

Man. I've been searching for a fix for the same issue - no apple apps connecting online - for over an hour. Your solution worked for me, so thanks!

I didn't have auto discovery enabled, but I did have both Web Proxy (HTTP) and Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS) selected... not sure why, perhaps for torrenting. I unchecked both and now everything is working fine again.

Thanks again!

the latest-12/16/13

went to apple genius today, for innumerable problems with itunes, including itunes crashing etc, particularly after trying to sync with iphone5.

genius did a "diagnostic workup" today, after mumbling first something about maverick.

runs diagnsotic and informs me... "there is a problem/something wrong with your computer harddrive" (2 errors arose on his diagnostic).

his proposed solution: remove/delete current operating system, reinstall operating system (as though i were getting a new computer). then... i can "go home, connect to my time machine/time capsule, and re-install/back up everything from there".

been through this before. this is what usually happens. genius sprinkles his fairy dust and removes old operating sytsem. i leave store, get home, my computer no longer see's my wifi (time machine) or sees it and won't connect. another phone call, with problems.

itunes usually a blank slate.

he was kind enough to give me "a simple link" as to how to do it all myself, at home:

OS X Lion: Recover your entire system

(notice the link says lion- though i have maverick, which has completely messed up my computer, i think).

i told him that i was very wary of doing this all on my own at home, because i inevitably lose EVERYTHING (every song, EVERYTHING from itunes). plus, if my time capsule has been backing up a default in the system, won't it just re-download. "i don't BELIEVE so" was his reply.

i requested he not un-install and re-intall. i told him that withoug a true apple genius/IT person at my house, this smelled of havoc. loss of internet access (kids can't do homework), itunes lost forever. i said i would try to struggle through the problems till my harddrive actually crashed and i had no other choice than to bring in my macbook, disconnet my time machine/time capsule (ultimately leading to the loss of internet access in my house... armageddon).

he made a log of it.

got home... itunes even worse. not only do i now get a prompt asking if i want an itunes tutorial, and i have to login (not just give my password, but actually log in with myaccount and password).

simple question: a while back the geniuses informed me it is against apple law/rules for them to help someone at their home. they told me there were "apple consultants" online, approved by apple, that i could call.

i find it hard to believe, in this day and age, that we can't find a former "apple genius" consultant to come to a home and get everything re-operating as close to capacity. does ANYONE have a link for this? i'm at the end of my rope. it shouldn't have to be this complicated, ESPECIALLY with apple, who i have loved and been a devoted fan of for YEARS.

help. please.

HI,

First of all the Link the man gave you is the same process for Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks Recovery.

Apple has it's own Stores.

These have the Geniuses and have repair people as well if you have to leave your Mac.

Apple also have training people can do and can get recognised and Apple Authorised Service Providers (AASP)

These then to be a mixture of older established Resellers that also did repairs and dedicated Repair services.

(Before Apple had the Apple Stores there were different grades of Resellers).

Obviously some of these will do "Call Outs".

AppleCare if you bought it or are still in the period it applies to new Macs will also provide support by phone.

You need to decide on a method to proceed.

Or as Petermac87 said you need to start your own thread

thanks to all.

i started my own (useless) thread.

please feel free to delete me from this discussion (because, i can't figure out how to do it myself).

as i said, i have been a huge apple fan for years.

not everyone in the disussions has the same technical savvy as you and others.

i never mean to offend anyone. i'm just trying to find a solution (for an imbecile such as myself). thanks for the repeat advice on apple store/apple care. been there, done that.

please forgive my tresspassing.

Hi Everyone,

I too had a plethora of issues pertaining to the latest upgrade to the point where my computer would no longer work, I had a cloned version of Mountain Lion and the updated Mavericks available externally so not all was lost.

I did however find that although the Mavericks upgrade worked on an external, when it came to internal it was a bit of a lost cause.

So as one of the guys stated earlier, Command R is the way back in.

I ran off Mountain Lion, reformatted my internal Hard Drive, and started with a fresh install of Mavericks, not installing anything of Mountain Lion at all,
reinstalling and reinstating all software, passwords, keychains etc. etc. a little too time consuming but hey, at least there are no operating errors happening…

It appears that all is working fine now, there are still a couple of bugs which are a bit annoying (like Mighty Mouse not working) although Magic Mouse will, scrolling sometimes stops and switching between applications is a little tempremental, but overall it's actually more stable than doing an upgraded/updated version.

Photo Booth, QuickTime, Safari, Mail, Calendar, Chess and Contacts are some of the applications that are no longer recognised by Mavericks looking back at Mountain Lion, so I would think that a fresh install is possibly the best solution at this point in time, if you are fine with having to reinstall/reinstate everything…

I hope this assists in all your endeavours,
Cheers

Just to keep everyone up to date I am using a Mac Pro 2.8 GHz Quad Core Xeon ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card with two monitors.

Works just fine in 10.8.5

An endless list of problems in Mavericks.

Tried it out when Mavericks was first released and I just used my Time Machine to get back to 10.8.5

Had another go today and loaded Mavericks on a clean internal 500 GB HD and started up from that.

This OS simply does not work in my system.

For one thing I now have two finder bars - one on each screen (NO they are not mirrored) sometimes one side works , sometimes the other.

Really haven't got the time to do Apple's debugging work for them and had hoped they'd have made some sort of attempt at sorting this out since its release which was over A YEAR AGO !!

Pretty ******.
