Exchange servers and Mavericks Mail

It loads it when you open the Mail app, but then no new messages will appear in the Exchange inbox while app is open - fetch new mail and the Activity Window show "Synchronizing Inbox" and jsut sits there and waits.. Close the app and reopen - New Mail appears. Another bug?

I've given up as well. I reinstalled os mavericks three times with no luck. I even went to time machine backup and as soon as I went to restore you could see my subfolders disappear in the inbox. It's just unbelievable. And they played like dumb when I called in to discuss the problem when they obviously are aware of the situation. Outlook works fine so it's obviously something that changed with Mavericks.

Are Beta testers typically business people running Exchange? Probably not. Do business people have time to complain on forums? Probably not. It is how it was missed and has been given low priority in my opinion.

I connect to 2007, 2008SBS and 2010 Exchange servers. The 2010 is hosted by me on my own hardware, the other 2 are hosted elsewhere.

I use Apple applications (Mail, Contacts, Calendars), there are no problems with any of them that I can find.

Consistently poor performance with Exchange servers is the main objection, that and its general inferiority to the Windows version.

Why do you need 3 seperate apps going, invitations come in and get sent to my calendar whether or not it is running, frankly I prefer not to run some bloated app like Outlook when most of the time I am just using email. If I need to view my calendar it's right there on the toolbar, one click for a quick summary.

I never directly use Contacts (well, hardly ever) Mail gets addresses from it and puts new contacts in it if I choose.

On the Microsoft Outlook forums we do not recommend making subfolders under the Inbox.

Exchange Header

Inbox

Folder A <---this is wrong

Drafts

Deleted Items folder

Junk

Folder A <-- this is correct

It's best to move folders using your web interface (OWA) but you can drag in Outlook.

In Outlook:

First turn off Group folders. You'll see the header with the name of your Exchange account at the top. Drag folders to the header. Do this slowly. It will take some time for results to sync to server then back to Outlook.

In Browser via OWA

Because of the massive changes The process is best done in your browser. I would also put Outlook into work offline mode during this process. After all is moved on the server via the browser, I would delete the Exchange account and let it all download correctly from the server. If you only have Exchange, just start over in a new Identity.

If you've migrated from Windows to Mac and happen to have an *extra* windows box you could...

get an OnMicrosoft account, set up your windows box/exchange for windows to access onMicrosoft

(there have been some posts about this)

Install the iCloud services for Windows to "integrate" you contacts/calendar to iCloud

Use CodeTwo utlility to "synch" your Windows Exchange Contacts/Calendar with your iCloud Contacts/Calendar

Not really elegant, but I was trying to figure out what to do with my old windows box anyway...

[my situation was actually a bit worse with a Corporate Calendar, but CodeTwo has some nice synchronization tools for Windows]

Like the mainframe, I guess Windows lives to see another day...

So for me almost everything seems to be working OK since the last Mail update, I do receive Exchange emails on time, and sending emails also works.

However, I do have the problem others are also reporting, that is sending emails with attachments has problems. After sending the email with attachment, Mail.app bonks saying it couldn't send the email. I hit "Edit Again", and after sending second time again it gets sent successfully.

This state of things is hugely annoying, it is a shame Apple does not even make any statement about this, to at least acknowledge the existence of the issue.

I did this mid-December. Actually, it all came about because I noticed a glitch that I still haven't fixed and that relates to a couple of regular addressees. When I type in their address, I get duplicates of their address. It has no functional significance, but it is weird. I partially fixed it by not letting Gmail contribute to my address book. Anyway, in check into this, I noticed that I had 2 Exchange accounts! How that happened beats me. So I deleted both accounts and re-established a new account. That's when the atatchment problems arose, and ultimately I called in my super-tech nephew, Matt (MattMacPro) who helped me sort it out. So if you follow his instructions, I think you'll find that this problem will go away. Actually now that I have done this, I cannot even find a Mail folder in my LIbrary. Just doesn't exist. Go figure.

I'm not sure what is causing the attachment gate issue, but it continues to wreak havoc. The one thing I'd like to mention is that, for me, the emails with attachment fail to go through whenever I send them from a location outside my place of business. At work, the emails with attachments go through without a problem. I am not sure if others have noticed this, but just thought I'd mention it, in case someone working on the fix was aware (business vs. home network) of this odd mail.app EWS behavior.
