Exchange servers and Mavericks Mail

It loads it when you open the Mail app, but then no new messages will appear in the Exchange inbox while app is open - fetch new mail and the Activity Window show "Synchronizing Inbox" and jsut sits there and waits.. Close the app and reopen - New Mail appears. Another bug?

If it's fixed why don't I see any change? Why do others continue to experience the same? Why are there other similar discussions like this? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5969450?answerId=25086176022#25086176022. Dated March 4.

And respectfully, 'Resolves an issue that prevented Mail from receiving new messages from certain providers' does not seem to equate with 'fixes Microsoft Exchange server problems.' Apple wasn't shy to mention the fixes for Gmail in the last release.

And yes, iOS uses SSL and works just fine. Always did.

And you are right, inked at dolltattoos, I don't have any suggestions and I haven't gotten any either yet that worked. And no, I'm not going back to MS, but I'm not the only one who has to rely on Exchange server for email. Apple's (mail) Server has a corporate market share of, round numbers, 0.

Respectfully, if I went to my car dealer and he did a firmware update to my car, which then promptly stalled as I drove off his lot, I wouldn't be blaming it on the gas in my tank, unless the dealer had warned me to change the octane rating.

Craig Federighi is to blame here not Tim Cook.

The VP of software knew what was going on. If you're reading this I assure you it'll be removed by the morning but no way does a VP at apple forget about customers using Microsoft Exchange any bit more than users using windows xp.

I have two ideas.

1. He's testing the market to see who ditches exchange. (I actually moved towards it after seeing how rock-solid it is OUTSIDE of Apple Mail)

2. He'll be the next VP that moves to another company.

That's all.

You're assuming that everyone has Exchange EWS configured properly. Yes Mac Mail was partially broken in 10.9.1, but it's been fixed.

On that theory, Mountain Lion Mail must have run sweetly with the "improperly" set up Exchange, but Mavericks will not. That says they made Mavericks intolerant of some settings which Apple have not announced for reasons known only to them. And they seem to have missed osme.

Business folk should not have to play this game. They have Dan Brown on the board?

You may stand on your broken escalator and lament the management and engineers who designed it all you want. Throw in threats too.

Or you can get moving yourself.

Our escalators, by the same company work just fine.

We told you what we are doing to keep them operational. Is your Exchange server at the same patch levels? Do your logs tell you anything on the Mac and the server? Is your mac's firewall in the way? Have you tried to connect on a new install of OS X or is your install an upgrade, with possible incorrect or old file permissions? Do you have a test exchange server you can connect to, one without all the network risk mitigation hardware in the way? Are your network switches reporting any errors? Are you running antivirus software on your Mac that might be impeding Mail?

Do this: back up your Mac with Time Machine. Do a fresh OS X install. Configure just Mail. Test. Test it on the same switch as the Exchange server, or as close as possible. Bring back your applications until Mail stops working. The point us to get moving.

Or stand on your broken escalator and continue to rail.

Business folks indeed.

Hi, Facetious. I'm a regular consumer. I just want my mail app to be invisible. No hacking. No checking logs. Do reinstalling the OS. See, that's why I went to Mac. Everything is billed as just being easy. For the most part it is. If a company bills itself as one that makes "things just work," the company needs to stand behind that. If you want to get all technical, go to the Windows Vista forum and help someone out.

Inked, you don't get it, do you. Whatever the state of the Exchange servers, it worked on ML, it does not work on Mav. If you have an IT team who are willing to tweak their servers to suit the one Mac user in the building, fine, but if they come the old "told you all along not to buy a Mac, yada yada" then you are in trouble. So glad yours is OK.

I am the only Mac user in a company of 6000+ employees. Before I got a Mac, I was asked to write an iOS app for them... Using my personal Mac and iOS devices. And, I wasn't allowed on the network. I brought my own internet connectivity to work, and paid for it. When they wanted updates, I said no. I insisted they buy the equipment. We finally resorted to buying it outside the accepted practice, as if it were a fax machine. I'd say I have to hide it when upper management visits, but none have since I got it.

I support myself. I support our customers who have macs, even though they have IT teams. I even support the general public who have Macs that are customers of our clients. And none of this is in my job description as I am a SQL/Web developer for that company.

So yes, I DO get it. What I do not get is how ***** can sit here and complain about their free software's interaction with microsoft's garbage and how they can condemn the awesome team that delivered it and the few folks who are willing to take time out of their lives to help them figure out their problems, again for free!

I think I know why, now that I think about it. You equate 'free' with 'not having any value.' Okay. Good luck. Sit in your own mess and wait for someone to clean it up for you. Good day, sir.
