Exchange servers and Mavericks Mail

I talked with two apple support people today and after trying various fixes for an hour they proclaimed that my exchange server hasn't issued an update to support Mavericks yet. I informed them that my iphone and ipad works just fine with the exchange server but they maintained that the problem is the microsoft server hasn't updated to become compliant with Mavericks. Kind of seemed like Apple was pointing the finger at Microsoft. In the end they asked me to get some specifics from my server and provide it to them - they'll see what they can do. Port numbers and such.

Disappointing.

This is the issue. When troubleshooting, you look at what has changed, 99% of the time that's where the problem is.

In this case, Mavericks changed, everything was working fine before.

Therefore, the problem is Mavericks mail and it needs to be fixed or they need to issue a bulletin on what they changed and what Exchange now needs to do to fix it.

Why can't Apple see this?

Good points...considering this thread has been viewed over 20,000 times perhaps it will get their attention. I brought this to the attention of the two support people and they said they would make sure their engineering team is alerted.

OMG, Let's hope those support people were just over-loyal and misinformed, and that Apple have not gone down the uber arrogant road without Jobs's supervision.

Looking at some of the other changes, I am hoping that, but not convinced however.

Phil V’s solution seems to have worked the best for me. Although still not quite perfect. I also went into the internet account and deleted the exchange account. I then removed anything related to exchange in the library. I restarted the computer and created the exchange account. It does work, however, it will still freeze up in the activity window on exchange. If I cancel synchronizing exchange and then click get mail it has been better but still not always immediately. I may have missed a couple exchange files to delete, any other thoughts?

I agree it does work but it's very sophmoric and average at best. The omission of smart albums (or similar) is a make/break for big business.

Although Mail.App needs to work I'm amazed at how many people thing these cheapo apps are better...they some features for sure!

AirMail does not work for me, exactly the same symptoms as Apple Mail and Outlook 2011 - random delays in mail delivery.

Have Apple changed the way they are synching with Exchange in an underlying library in Mavericks? The fact it was all working before, and is no longer, and that all mail clients show the same behaviour would point you that way wouldn't it...?

I'm having this issue as well. No matter what I've done to try and fix this, it works temporarily. Then, after some time, the massive (sometimes permanent) delays in receiving email come back. Very frustrating given how awful Outlook is as well.

Does anyone have the latest beta of 10.9.1 installed? If so, does it fix this issue? It looks like some items have been addressed in mail, but it's unclear if these are the changes for gmail they recently pushed, which doesn't fix the exchange problem?

If AirMail doesn't work for you I have two thoughts...

1. You truely do have a config issue on your Exchange sever

2. You don't have AirMail setup correct for Exchange and I can confirm that the setup is not fully intutive to the average user.

I've tested it on many Macs on two different exchange servers and the 1.2 build works fine.

It's not as good as Mail.App but it's close and getting there...and works. It's not Push but my data syncs fine, quickly, sends w/o issue and arrives w/o issue. I have approx. 47K messages in my Archive.

I purchased AirMail and installed it from the Apple store. I was able to add my email account, it then opened and then immediately crashed. I have removed it and reinstalled it with no luck. It still crashes whenever I open it. Any thoughts?

For the sake of those who are still waiting on a fix for Mac Mail in Mavericks, can we keep conversations regarding AirMail on a separate thread? Apple will be less inclined to help this thread if we continue seeking support for 3rd party applications.

Believe me I want to use Mac Mail in Mavericks, however I need to start getting my mail and obviously Apple hasn’t come up with the solution. I understand your point and won't ask about third party software.

Your point is correct about new threads being for new topic but many users are despirate to find a solution.

Your theory that Apple will slow down bug/fix development because we are talking about a program that is $1.99 is the silliest thing I'll read on the intertubes this month!

I am fortunate in that I have access to Outlook 2011. This is obviously an expensive piece of software if purchased specifically.

I have been forced to switch because of a number of problems I've encountered with Mail for Maverick whilst connecting to an Exchange Server. These are problems that I've never previously had (Moutain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard or Leopard).

I've been using Outlook 2011 for a few days now. Whilst it works, I would switch back to Mail in a heartbeat, if its problems were resolved. Despite being free, compared to the horrendous price of Outlook, I consider(ed) it a superior product.

I hope that this provides some incentive for the Mail developers to address this problem before I get too comfortable with Outlook!

To "quitsayingmetoo"... Nobody said Airmail was better than Mail just that it works nicely with Exchange. Airmail doesnt have 5 years of development that Mail has but I it looks like it will get there quickly. For a minimal investment it may help a lot of people. I find the best way to get action is to "quit_griping" and vote with your feet. The risk of losing users, who may never come back, helps focus the business mind :-)
