Exchange servers and Mavericks Mail

It loads it when you open the Mail app, but then no new messages will appear in the Exchange inbox while app is open - fetch new mail and the Activity Window show "Synchronizing Inbox" and jsut sits there and waits.. Close the app and reopen - New Mail appears. Another bug?

Unlikely that this does anything for exchange - at least according to apple:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6030

About the update

Mail Update for Mavericks includes improvements to general stability and compatibility with Gmail, including the following:

  • Fixes an issue that prevents deleting, moving, and archiving messages for users with custom Gmail settings
  • Addresses an issue that may cause unread counts to be inaccurate
  • Includes additional fixes that improve the compatibility and stability of Mail

I suppose they coudl have put it in their 'additional fixes' which would be pretty lame regarding the severity of the exchange issue.

Here is a screenshot of the activity window when Mail gets stuck. I have been monitoring all day with Wireshark packet captures, Mail basically stops ALL communication when it does this. When quitting Mail and reopening, it will work good again right away, but may reappear 15 minutes to an hour later...

I also checked our Exchange server IIS logs, nothing looks strange there, no EWS throttling policy issues or anything like that.

Hi guys,

I might have a solution for the Attachment-gate which so far is working.

It seems that when you set up an Exchange account, two SMTP records are stored. Below what I get when an email bounces: Two Exchange outgoing mail servers...

This is what the Sr. Apple Tech told me to do:

Go to Mail/Preferences/Accounts and select the Exchange account. In the Account Information tab click on 'Edit SMTP Server List...' under 'Outgoing Mail Server'.

In the new window you might see:

Exchange (Offline) which is similar to the one that shows up in above screesnhot. This the 2nd SMTP record but not the one that is needed and seems to cause the problem. He asked me to delete that one by selecting it and clicking the - (minus) button under the list.

I did that and tried some emails and so far that solved the problem for me...

For what it is worth, I was having a similar problem and I also noticed that it started when I wanted to send mails via exchance outside of my place of work. I am not sure it this helps but I tried several fixes up until one proposed earlier which was cleaning up the outgoing mail server list. Basically I have several mail accounts (one of which is an old Hotmail account). Prior to upgrading I had used a work around to "trick" mail into accessing the Hotmail account via the now available IMAP protocols. Eventhough I had deleted the old POP setup it must have left the redundant outgoing mail server information in mail. I went in to my outgoing mail server list (in the image attached - though this screenshot is after the fix, sorry!) and found two copies of "Hotmail" with one labelled as "(offline)". I deleted that entry from the list and presto! I can send outgoing attachements of the maximum allowable size again even when I am off my work network.

I am not sure if this helps any of you guys as this was a fix that was indicated earlier (albeit with an inactive outgoing exchange server). I think that basically any inactive "(offline)" server will screw with mail's ability to send...User uploaded file

@zloibubr

have deleted the account settings in preferences/internet accounts and added a new one.

Few minutes after opening mail and reloading all messages happens this:

Where are the 112 unread messages? apprently stuck on their way from my server (Exchange 2010) to the client.

nevertheless thanks for the advice

deleting the file in the EWS- folder doesn´t fix it in my case.

Every message you post. Your last two:

In the first you call me a liar, and say what I'm saying is a curse word. This is in response to a rational post where I had clearly outlined the technical basis for the test and for checking if there was a relationship in the problem.

In this previous message you insult my technical ability with no basis.

The truth of the matter is that Csound has demonstrated no technical capacity, and his every post in the forum is an insult or an attack. Apple moderators, either take action against Csound or we'll simply terminate any discussion of preventing the loss of several million dollars a year in purchases.

Removing my post where I asked him to stop interrupting technical discussion with personal attacks was out of line. If you continue to allow Csound to persist with yet more personal attacks and zero technical discussion, then I will terminate this discussion and our business with you and deal with businesses who operate more professionally.

I have had the very same problems widely discussed here. Even the off-line setup described here didn't get me any further (i.e. the account was configured but never became online).

I was so frustrated that I had to start using Outlook for Mac (which wouldn't be my first choice) and even tried AirMail. Both worked flawlessly, buy I hate to have to use several mail clients for my different mail accounts.

Finally I found this page: https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com,that allowed me to test my connection (you must go to the Office365 tab) using my account credentials and to see the actual server assigned to my account. With that information I manually configured both Apple Mail and Calendar applications, uncheking auto discovery feature and replacing the outlook.office365.com with the actual server (pod... something), keeping the ESW path. After changing those settings and waiting a fee hours for the synching, averting seems to be ok.

I'm not sure how Microsoft Office365 works and if the assigned server will remain the same if, for instance I move to another place, so I'll keep the connectivity test form Microsoft handy.

I hope it helps.

Not having new email without having to quit and restart mail in Mavericks is pretty poor form.

I've tried ticking check every minute, deleting accounts from the settings->internet accounts, removing the mailbox from ~/Library/Mail/V2 and removing all references to the account in keychain and still to no avail.

Looking at my console I get the same errors as http://discussions.apple.com/thread/5525237 .. so I suspect whenever that is answered my issues will be too.

... sometimes it feels like 'early adopters' these days are more 'beta testers' than 'early adopters'.

Following upgrading to Mavericks I couldn't get mail to send attachments using my exchange account unless they were very small, they just got stuck in the "On My Mac" outbox. Having read this link: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5475911?answerId=23821417022#23821417022 I tried changing my User name (in Preferences > Accounts) from simply "user.name", to "domain\user.name" and it seems to have fixed the problem, emails with attachments still appear in the "On My Mac" outbox rather than the "Exchange" one, but they get sent just fine. Hopefully the fix will persist.
