How can I change the login screen background on Mavericks?

None of the old tools such as Onyx or Loginox have been updated, and none of the previous manual methods of performing this seem to be working for me either.

You forgot to block your contact details so you might want to remove that image.

To me it looks like the background was just scaled up, wich might have something to do with your retina display (I found this when googling: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5266). Try fiddling with those settings and see if that works. Otherwise you can try scaling the image down, but that will result in a bad resolution of the background.

Lycka till!

I still need a screenshot of your login screen. The reason for this is so that I know where the Apple logo is, which is important since that's what we're replacing and I need to know where on your screen it is so I know how much i need to add to the top and right to make the background centered. It's also important because I need to know where the buttons are. Furthermore, the picture you linked is not of high enough resolution to look good on your screen, but if you're okay with that I can certainly fix it for you, as long as you give me a screenshot.

Dear Kcasper,

Do you know how to restore the default login screen background? My IT Department customised the login background and I would like to have my grey background and Apple logo back. I managed to ventured into /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LoginUIKit.framework, but I cannot seem to find the original files (apple.png etc.) online to which I can revert.

Thank you.

Hey Terrance,

I am attaching the 2 original files in case you haven't found it or it's lost.

Follow these steps:

In Finder Window go to Finder>Go>Go to Folder... then type and hit enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LoginUIKit.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/Log inUICore.framework/Resources/

Then replace the images with these original images with the same file names.

Hi Kcasper, thanks for helping out everyone here. I am using MBP 13" retina at 2560X1600. Here is my screenshot

However, I try to use Onyx and the picture scaled out (enlarged) despite same resolution picture used. I have selected 'Best Picture' in my setting instead of scaled. Would you be kindly do this resolution at your free time. Thanks.

Hi guys, and hi Kcasper. This is gavinloh, I have issues with login. The resolution is default 13" at 1280X800. That solved the issue and ur template is fabulous with right extra margin at top. Thanks so much! Happy World Cup!

Retina display maximize the pixel but only after log in only.
