No backwards compatibility from Pages 5.0? Really?!

Only users with Pages 5 can open my documents now? What a pain! This was not mentioned in the "What's New" section in the App store description. It seems pretty important to know!

Quite simple really, I had not been interested in following this while it was being hammered to death so I wasn't aware of it. I had tested the new versions on Mavericks when that came out and decided too many babies had been thrown out with the bathwater, and stayed with iWorks 09.

When I got Yosemite I decided to see if the new versions might have improved enough for me to use them and indeed many of my problems with them have been solved, but I still need '09 for compatibility with other users - the export to 09 from versions 5 of Pages and 3 of Numbers drops things as well.

So I shall try to dig out the relevant dmgs.

Never abandon iWork '09 (no 's')!!! If anything, abandon Pages 5, Numbers 3 & Keynote 6. Even Pages 1/iWork '05 has more features than Pages 5.

If you were using Tiger, OS X 10.4.11 or Snow Leopard, OS X 10.6.8, your Pages 4 would update to 4.0.4. In Mountain Lion, Mavericks & Yosemite it would be Pages 4.3.

For all versions of OS X, the latest are Pages 2.0.2/iWork '06 & Pages 3.0.3/iWork '08. And, yes, they work in Yosemite.

Many, many thanks to PeterBreis0807, Peggy and VikingOSX. And also to VikingOSX for the link to the update for iWork '09 to 4.3 (Pages), 2.3 (Numbers) and 5.3 (Keynote).

While at home for a couple of days last week (yes, I travel quite a lot so it sometimes takes me some time to respond) I managed to find my original iWork '09 disk purchased when it was boxed with as far as I remember Snow Leopard, loaded it under Yosemite, which then told me it wouldn't run, updated it through the link supplied by VikingOSX and lo and behold, they all work again at last.

I fully agree with your comments on the pain of using the two versions on the same machine or worse a population of machines at different levels of operating system and software generally - I just have to be very vigilant. Nonetheless I prefer to keep the new versions for occasional tests, and to find out if things I managed to do easily on Pages 4.3 are even possible on Pages 5.5 and if so, how.

So, many thanks once again!
