Mavericks Crashing my iMac 2012

I have a 2012 iMac. Worked fine until today. Installed Mavericks and it seems to crash after just a few minutes of use. Thought it might be just Safari or emil, but after a process of elimination, it seems to crash whenever it wants.....few minutes of use.

I tried a Safe Boot mode, but it crashed half way through the process.

Just got off the phone with Apple... tested the disk, went through 3rd party software....nothing running that shouldn't be.

Need some help on this one. I'm surprised it let me go this long without crashing.

I thought I would pass on a piece of intel I have uncovered which has *fixed* my Mac. My machine is a late 2009 iMac 27, 1tb, 3.06 GHz and I’ve put in 16gm of Ram. The machine worked perfectly until I upgraded to Mavericks. Then, in November of 2013, had kernel panic crashes after an hour or two of operation.

I searched the forum’s high low, but couldn’t determine the cause. Finally, a thread about heat and crashing with Mavericks caught my eye.

It seems Mavericks may cause older? or some machines to run hotter than previous OSX versions.

I installed http://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control and the machine has not crashed in 10 days, with considerable usage. I think the GPU was getting too hot, and crashing. I set the optical drive fan to crank up when the GPU is at 38 and fan speed increases from there.
