Mavericks Finder keeps crashing!

Since upgrading to Mavericks the finder crashes. Pop up box appears briefly, doesn't not show drives or menu bar. Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Please determine if the crashes continue to occur in "Safe Mode":

  • Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
  • Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
  • Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
  • To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

Yes, it is Google Drive that was creating problems for me as well. Thanks. I did not see the same window/options as in the picture above from "fwmaietta", but I de-selected all folders from sync preferences. That did not solve the problem. Then I removed Google drive from the top bar and it did solve the problem. The finder is not crashing for now.

Just to let you know its 3 years later and this solution is still helping people. Finder stopped working all of the sudden. I could use it for 30 seconds and then I had to "killall Finder" to make it work again. I unchecked Show file sync status icons and it is fixed. Thanks so much fwmaietta for posting this here. I would never have found it on the forum topic you linked to without your help :-)
