Oct 24, 2013 2:56 AM in response to Alex White~by Jack Frantz,Hi there!
Well, my Pixma iP4200 doesn't work either. I get the error 306 message when the task is launched. Needless to say it worked fine in ML. Re-installing led to the same error.
I guess we shall have to wait for an Apple update for Canon drivers.

They never updated the driver for 10.7, so its not surprising that there is no driver for 10.9.
But fear not, I have tested Gutenprint v5.2.9 on OS X 10.9 and it works and it lists your iP4000 as a supported model. Note that Gutenprint is not signed, so you will need to Control-click on the installer and select Open from the pop-up window to get past Gatekeeper.

That is a very useful link, I think I'll try updating then and let you know the result. I'm glad there is a potential solution. The printer really is very good, and it seems daft to get rid of a perfectly good printer due to lack of support from Canon.

Totally agree. I cannot tell you the number of times that Gutenprint has come to the rescue for users when the vendors have stopped supporting their product.
FYI - I have an iP5200R that is also no longer supported by Canon but it is printing fine on 10.9 using the Gutenprint driver. So I expect that you will have similar success with your iP4000.

With you getting the 306 error you have something else wrong with setup. Have you tried a reset of the printing system.

Oct 24, 2013 3:34 AM in response to PAHUby Jack Frantz,The ip4200 driver does not work. The printer keeps pausing and does not print anything of course.
The problem with Gutenprint is that it doesn't manage colours and printers' options very well. It does serve a purpose, that is print lines and graphs, but that's it.
The old Apple Canon drivers worked perfectly, and this time Gutenprint doesn't save my day.

Yes, resetting doesn't improve anything. Please note that everything had worked since Lion.
I don't get the 306 error with Gutenprint!
Oh, and my venerable 16/600PS (1994) prints fine, as well as my Epson Picture Mate (2004).

Well that suggestion was based on you stating that Gutenprint did not work either.

Not surprised. That was the last version of OS X that Canon released a driver for the iP4200.

Okay. I incorrectly assumed that based on your post about Gutenprint not working.

That's the benefit of having a printer that supports Postscript. And those Canon engines in the LW were built to last.

212Mb for a printer driver?! Wow!
That's due to it supporting every Canon printer and scanner in this list.

The iP4200 is not listed as a supported printer in that Canon download. So your result would be expected.
If you are not happy with the output you get with Gutenprint there is a driver suite called PrintFab. There is a cost involved but it will give you better colour management.
