Has anyone tried using this printer on OSX 10.9 yet? Does it work? I emailed Canon customer support and they say it is not supported by 10.9, which is annoying to say the least. I don't want to get get rid of a decent printer just because Canon haven't updated the driver for Mavericks.

They never updated the driver for 10.7, so its not surprising that there is no driver for 10.9.
But fear not, I have tested Gutenprint v5.2.9 on OS X 10.9 and it works and it lists your iP4000 as a supported model. Note that Gutenprint is not signed, so you will need to Control-click on the installer and select Open from the pop-up window to get past Gatekeeper.
Forgot to say - Gutenprint/CUPS doesn't work.
No luck. Same problem. Ip 4000 and 4002 not even listed... Let's wait for Apple to react then. 😮
It turns out to be a networking issue: the ip4200 works (it even installs automatically) when connected directly to the Mac. What is different in Mavericks?

That is a very useful link, I think I'll try updating then and let you know the result. I'm glad there is a potential solution. The printer really is very good, and it seems daft to get rid of a perfectly good printer due to lack of support from Canon.

That's the benefit of having a printer that supports Postscript. And those Canon engines in the LW were built to last.
Interesting. For a long time the Canon drivers have not been able to function correctly when the printer is connected to Windows and shared. For this type of network connection the Gutenprint driver has been required. So I would expect that you were using Gutenprint driver rather than the Canon supplied driver.

Yes that is correct. It is connected to à Windows XP machine and it had worked this way from day one - ie before 10.9...

I think it is multilanguage. But you can find the same solution on canon's english page I think.
Hi Bengkel, can you tell me if the IP4000 driver download you suggest works with El Capitan ? Did you get it from this site yourself ?

Totally agree. I cannot tell you the number of times that Gutenprint has come to the rescue for users when the vendors have stopped supporting their product.
FYI - I have an iP5200R that is also no longer supported by Canon but it is printing fine on 10.9 using the Gutenprint driver. So I expect that you will have similar success with your iP4000.
