Canon Pixma ip4000

Has anyone tried using this printer on OSX 10.9 yet? Does it work? I emailed Canon customer support and they say it is not supported by 10.9, which is annoying to say the least. I don't want to get get rid of a decent printer just because Canon haven't updated the driver for Mavericks.

They never updated the driver for 10.7, so its not surprising that there is no driver for 10.9.

But fear not, I have tested Gutenprint v5.2.9 on OS X 10.9 and it works and it lists your iP4000 as a supported model. Note that Gutenprint is not signed, so you will need to Control-click on the installer and select Open from the pop-up window to get past Gatekeeper.

Thanks.

Yes, resetting doesn't improve anything.

Well that suggestion was based on you stating that Gutenprint did not work either.

Please note that everything had worked since Lion.

Not surprised. That was the last version of OS X that Canon released a driver for the iP4200.

I don't get the 306 error with Gutenprint!

Okay. I incorrectly assumed that based on your post about Gutenprint not working.

Oh, and my venerable 16/600PS (1994) prints fine

That's the benefit of having a printer that supports Postscript. And those Canon engines in the LW were built to last.

The printer really is very good, and it seems daft to get rid of a perfectly good printer due to lack of support from Canon.

Totally agree. I cannot tell you the number of times that Gutenprint has come to the rescue for users when the vendors have stopped supporting their product.

FYI - I have an iP5200R that is also no longer supported by Canon but it is printing fine on 10.9 using the Gutenprint driver. So I expect that you will have similar success with your iP4000.
