Went to 10.9.4 from 10.8.5 today and lost my ability to sync contacts between Outlook 2011 and Apple's Contacts app. Glad to confirmation from this thread that it is a known problem.

According to About SyncServices SyncServices was brought back under 10.9.3 for USB devices via iTunes and for supported network protocols, but not for locally installed Mac apps. Wow! Glad I waited until 10.9.3+ to upgrade, I very much need the USB syncing as I'm not ready to migrate to iCloud.

It is my understanding that Microsoft doesn't have an option to utilize SyncServices locally anymore, but only via a supported network protocol. Please correct me if I'm wrong as this will finally force my hand to switch to Apple Mail so that I only have to maintain one Address Book.

Aloha and Mahalo!

OK

MAYBE this will help people. You need to set up your OWN SERVER.

I honestly did not read the whole thread. But I skimmed through it. I have No CLUE if this will help sync Outlook Contacts to iCal, HOWEVER this will sync all your devices (Apple) to your iCal / Contacts (Address Book) WITHOUT iCLOUD.

OS X Mavericks Server is a $20 download in the App Store. It allows you to make any computer running Mavericks into a server. Apple has forced the the user to now be a server for himself. If the consumer is concerned about privacy they can always be there own host. It is very nice and easy to set up.

Here is a link to a nice walk through. This guy named Todd Olthoff is very good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVfEicYfMTE

Software allows to connect to as many devices/computers/users as you want. Only $20. Limited only by what hardware you are using for the server.

Obviously the more RAM the better. and adding External Hard Drives for memory is good. and of course never turn off your computer. Add user profiles that can be logged into from anywhere just like the big boys.

Version 3.0 -for you bit hunters out there. They also have OS X Server for past OS versions but I do not know how user friendly they are. Todd has tutorials on them as well.

So $20 bucks and maybe an Apple Airport Express Router just to guarantee simplicity of setup. Router is probably better than any router your Broadband company has provided you AND you can use the extra older router as a Repeater for extended coverage for our big backyard. 😉

Well, a have found the problem. Now we cannot have the address book on our Mac, only on iCloud. This reason, outlook cannot sync.

Is there a way to mavericks let's use both iCloud and MAC address book?

You can use pretty much any Contact app you want, including Apples own one. Microsoft can't be bothered to support their Mac users. (You can't sync Calendars or Notes either)

If you want to use Outlook with iCloud you will have to use the Windows version.

This still hasn't been addressed as we move through 10.10. Which, frankly, is understandable that no one wants to fix it. It's not Apple's fault, it's not Microsoft's fault, and it's not Google's fault. The three just don't want to play together like we all wish they should.

The bottom line is that you can't have a singular, commercial, email client / office client, across the Mac and PC platform. You have to support a couple of options, at the very least. And since the 10.10.x Mac Mail client is having issues with Gmail 2-step authentication, this complicates matters greatly. If the Mac Mail client worked, then at least you'd have a clear choice for what to support on the Mac platform.

Hopefully this issue will be resolved in 10.10.5 in the Mac Mail client.

Unfortunately, it has a bug in XOAUTH2, where it forgets or doesn't send the password, which has been showing up in Gmail and other services that use the upgraded security. It's been happening back as far as 10.10. I'm seeing it intermittently with 2-step authentication, and it appears at what seems to be random intervals. At least I haven't seen anyone narrow down what seems to trigger it.

10.10.4 Mail SMTP problem

I suspect that it's related to Mac Mail wanting to "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" but because it seems random, it's hard to test and be more certain.
