Mavericks Launchpad, missing icons

Here is the hack.

You'll lost any grouping in Launchpad.

I don't have an editor program, but when this happened to me earlier today and nothing seemed to help, I shut down my MBP and then restarted. It repaired itself.

This had not happened to me before today and I am a long time Mac user. I didn't know if it was Mavericks or something I had done. In any case, shutting down and then restarting worked for me.

go to "~/Library/Application Support/Dock",you can find file *.db, delete it,and open a terminal window ,input "killall Dock",and all icons return.

What if I can't open Terminal? What to do? I am missing many of my icons i Launchpad, and one of them is the icon for Terminal. I can't put in any commands in Terminal.

Go to spotlight and type "terminal" it will appear to launch te app.

Shortcut keys for spotlight : Command/Apple key and "space" key.

I performed this two weeks ago with success. But this week again some icons were removed. Seems to happen with eg an app update or something.

I have had the same problem with launchpad not showing certain application icons. To solve this problem, just drag the apps that are missing to the lauchpad icon on the dock and voila , that should do the trick. It is appearing to be a common bug in Mavericks which hopefully will be fixed in 10.9.2

I can "open" Terminal, as in I can see Terminal in the upper left corner and push the dropdown menues. But I can't use the program. There is no windows open, and nothing happens, when i push "new window" or "new command". The program doesnt respond, I've tried everything!

I can't launch Maps, Messages, Facetime, Photobooth and several others, and many of my apps doesn't respond when they are open. Contacts can open like Terminal, but no windows appear, and I can't do anything in the app.

very strange problem but Chappaai's solution worked for me too.

I do not have Dock.db

Maybe its because I run "killall Dock" earlier?
