but I have same probelm with appleuser1993, after icons back normal App like Contacts, maps, textedit and many of my apps still doesn't work.

How can i do this part?

It has something to do with the desktop picture. I know, that sounds crazy, but hear me out.

One of the ".db" files in the dock folder was "desktoppicture.db." When I deleted it and rebooted the Dock, it reverted my desktop picture to the Hallowen image I had months ago. I've changed it at least twice since.

I suspect it has something to do with the way Launchpad overlays the desktop picture, without the icons. It must reference the image itself, instead of simply overlaying the Finder.

Could changing the desktop (especially often) maybe freak out whatever references are kept to the correct background image in Launchpad, thereby throwing off the whole screen draw?

Much thanks on getting the icons back on the Launch pad. I will monitor to see if the fix works or they will disappear as observed by one member of this post.

A restart on my Mac Book Pro also worked for me. All the icons are restored.

"killall Dock" works for me too.

but whenever I start Parallels Desktop, the icons disappear again.

I have an iMac and there is no Dock folder in the Application Support folder. Why do you think that is? And what should I do now?

Go to terminal and copy and paste this ---> mv ~/L*/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db ~/Desktop; killall Dock; exit

This happened to me also, I did find that logging out and logging back in cured the problem. Hope it works for others 🙂

After I typed "killall Dock", the background disappeared. I then I did Finder ---> Window -->Bring All to Front.

Doing so brought back the background that I originally had.

That's exactly what mine looks like only the calendar shows its face, and messages shows notification bubbles but no icons.
