Unable to view Inbox sub-folders in Mail on OSX Mavericks

Workaround worked for me also. I don't LIKE it, but it at least lets me continue using Mail.app so I don't have to use Outlook! 🙂

Hopefully Apple fixes this in the next update.

Right click on your Account mailbox under Inbox. Choose "New Mailbox..." Create your mailbox and it will show-up.

That is the expected behavior, but if that worked as expected this thread would not exist.

I had been using Exchange as my only email account. Once I added iCloud as a second account, BOOM!, all my Exchange folders appeared.

After trying almost EVERYTHING that you guys suggested I found my subfolders! I tried creating new subfolders with the names from those I already have and Mail said that there was already an existing subfolder with that name. So I decided trying to export my inbox and importing it back. And voilà! All my subfolders are back with their original content! Maybe you guys coul try it too...

I tried the second account thing, and it worked just fine.

Then I tried adding a sub-subfolder. To my surprise, once I removed the second account, my subfolders remained!

Just a UI bug, I guess. But I'm not having any more issues with subfolders not showing up anymore.

I just restarted my rMBP, before i did this all my e-mail folders were showing up correctly after the a fresh restart i encounter the same issues where the sub folders were not displaying.

All I did to fix this was go to 'Internet Accounts' click on the Exchange account and uncheck the mail box, then rechecked it and restarted the mail and all sub folders appeared.

It's unfortunate that this is still a problem even after the 10.9.1 update. How silly is this? I can SEE the folders under Inbox downloading via the "Activity Monitor" during an initial sync, but can I see the folders in the in the navigation pane??? C'mon Apple...yet another epic fail in utilizing MacMail. Just as a follow up, this is a problem no matter if you use exchange web services OR IMAP against an exchange (office 365) account. Only adding a second account (I've utilized a personal GMAIL account) will show the subfolders.

Seems like lots of variations on a theme in this discussion. My version is that all my Exchange subfolders suddenly lost their contents today. I could see the sub folders and, if I went to Get Account Info, the correct number of items in each folder was displayed - I just couldn't see any of those items. The solution that has worked for me just now (cobbled together from this thread and others) was...

1. In Mail, delete my exchange account (I still had two iCloud accounts active and working fine)
2. Close Mail
3. Go to ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData and delete the files "Envelope Index?". There were five of them.
4. Restart Mail and add the exchange account back and all is well... almost!

The 23,000 odd emails are still downloading into each folder, but the unread mail notification (on the Mail icon) is reading 663 which is not right.

I've been struggling with the same problem for my outlook.com account. I finally found the solution on the Microsoft Community site:

All my subfolders and their contents are now showing correctly.

Certainly a solution if you want to use IMAP. We use EWS though for communication for email and calendar.

I have the same issue. It seems to only be my exchange account that is affected; my googlemail account doesn't have a problem. With 7000+ emails I'm not going through and sorting them manually!

I found "A" solution (not A rated, but just a solution)...

I found that for my account if my archived mail folders are subfolders of "Inbox", then I couldn't see them. But if Dragged those subfolders from under Inbox, to the root of the of my mailbox (I did this in OWA), suddenly MacMail in Mavericks could see all of my folders.

So Before this change my mailbox was:

Inbox

- Email Archive

- - Subfolder 1

- - Subfolder 2

- - Etc, Etc.

I grabbed "Email Archive" and drug it directly to the root of my mailbox (inline with Inbox and other system folders). when I restarted MacMail and the updates began, I could see my folders. Not sure if that will work for everybody, but it did for me. Not a great fix in my mind, but it did work.

I installed Thunderbird 😟 instead.
