Watching YouTube video full screen while working in other monitor

So after upgrading to Mavericks when I have a Chrome browser window with a youtube vidoe loaded and I click to watch fullscreen my other monitor is taken over with a grayed out background. Quicktime started doing this awhile back, and Vimeo used to do it in Mountain Lion when it was embeded in another site, but if I went to Vimeo.com to watch a video this didn't happen. How do I change this?

FYI, I have all Mission Control / Spaces options unchecked as I don't use that and don't want multiple Menu bars and whatnot.

Does anyone know why this is? This makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. At least give us the option to turn it off, Apple. What the ****?

I can view embedded YouTube videos fullscreen just fine, but not on YouTube.com. Perhaps I need to change my Flash/HTML5 settings for YouTube to circumvent this...
