Nice work kgoodson_ntcc. The acrobat option, for some reason is not working for me, but I am sure it will work for other people. It recognizes the Scanner and do scan the document, but when I hit "Return" it does not do anything and kind of freezes the application. When I try to quick it says that there is a process active and can not close so I ended up “Force Quiting” the app.
I will try with different settings to see what happens.
Still very good option for those that have the acrobat and works. It should work.

I am having the same issue with a HP ScanJet 4370. I tried going into the HP ScanJet under System Preferences but Open In Preview was not a choice and since, as another poster noted, the scanner is only tethered using the HP software, Image Capture was not an option either. The suggestion with scanning a single page, saving it, closing HPScan, and scanning another page works but is not feasible if you have more than a couple of pages to scan.
After downloading a software update from HP, Open in Preview was an option under System Preferences.
However, I found another workaround by using Acrobat X Pro.
- Open Acrobat X Pro
- Under the File menu, point to Create and select PDF from Scanner.
- Under Input, click the drop-down for Scanner and select HPScan.
- Click the Scan button. This will open HPScan and you can scan your document as usual, including multiple pages. However, at the top, instead of the normal options, there is a button labeled Return. When you have finished scanning your document, click the Return button and you will be taken back to Acrobat X Pro where you can save your scanned pages as a PDF.
