Mouse cursor lags with external monitor

hello,

i have just purchased a dell u2913wm monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1080. when connected to my macbook air (with mountain lion) using a mini displayport cable my cursor starts lagging on both screens. basically, when i move the mouse along a line on my desk the cursor results in a very erratic trajectory. this occurs when using a usb mouse and with the integrated trackpad. if the monitor is turned off or unplugged the mouse is smooth again. .

a similar problem was reported a few years ago but somehow the thread is just archived ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1965949?start=0&tstart=0 ).

also, i had trouble with the monitor that osx recognised it as ypbpr, so i had to force it to treat it as rgb device, because otherwise the image was unsharp.

on my macbook (mid 2010) running mavericks the cursor is smooth, so the monitor and the cable are apparently not faulty.

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

SOLUTION HERE:

Unplug screen connector (In my case mini-dp to HDMI) on the mini-dp end and plug it in again.

I personally use both bluetooth keyboard and trackpad, running OSX Sierra on a MacBook Air early 2015.

This solved the cursor lag after sleep.

Note: The cursor lag is both for the onboard AND external trackpad.

Restarted. MacBook open, but it's still laggy.

BT off, no change.

The display doesn't freeze, just mouse cursor is laggy.

No, this is an old Microsoft Intelli mouse, and a Logitech RX250. Both are s...t.

Trackpad works fine, but uncomfortable. I have a pain in my hand.

There are times when everything is going well, but soon coming mouse lag. I don't know why... This is not the mouse problem, Apple's software is not good. I have used Windows. Any mouse is perfect, no lag, no delay. I'm tired...

Hey guys,

I´m having the same problem here but also a fix (at least it works for me)

Setup: MBA 2014, i7, 8GB, 256GB; LG Flatron 22EA63, Magic Mouse, Steelseries Sensei Raw.

For me unplugging the external display gets rid of all mouse lag, then when i plug in the display again the lag stays away.

So what I recommend is plugging in the display after the mouse is connected.

cheers

Hey guys,

I'm having the same issue.

I'm running mid-2014 MBP 13", the 2.6G/8G model, with 10.10.2. External display is ViewSonic VA2431wm.

I'm using miniDSP-HDMI cable. Didn't try to use HDMI-HDMI cable.

Issue occurs both for trackpad and apple magic mouse.

Unlike Hannes0586, the guy before me, lag not disappear no matter plugging in the display before or after connecting the mouse. I think the order doesn't matter because the trackpad also has the same issue.

The put-mac-in-sleep-for-10-second solution in page 1 seems work for me. But I do hope Apple can solve this issue completely.

I found this thread when searching Google about my own mouse skipping problems. I found a solution that seems to work on my setup, thought I'd share it here in case anyone else found value in it.

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) with Intel HD 4000 1024 MB graphics and a 27" Apple Cinema Display. With a wired Logitech USB mouse plugged in either through the display or in the laptop's own USB ports I observed the skipping issue. Same for using a bluetooth Magic Mouse. Super wierd.

The way that I have resolved the issue is that I plugged the Thunderbolt cable into the port nearest the power adapter.

I realize this sounds a little weird, and I have no idea why it would work, but it does for me. Good luck.

For those using HDMI

I wonder if the HDMI output on the rMBP is causing wireless interference? I have a Logitech MX with a USB receiver that doesn't play nice specifically when I use the USB port next to the HDMI output. If I move it to the other side of the rMBP I get no lag. I notice the airport card (which includes bluetooth receiver) is in this corner of the body as well so that might be the source of issue re BT mice -though I get no real lag with a keyboard

It might be coincidence (I don't know enough about how HDMI works) that lag is worse when the mouse is active on an external monitor, but I wonder if it could be the increased data transfer out of the HDMI port interfering with reception when actively using an external monitor?

Of course, this doesn't explain the thunderbolt phenomenon but I don't have a thunderbolt capable display to test.
