Mouse cursor lags with external monitor

hello,

i have just purchased a dell u2913wm monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1080. when connected to my macbook air (with mountain lion) using a mini displayport cable my cursor starts lagging on both screens. basically, when i move the mouse along a line on my desk the cursor results in a very erratic trajectory. this occurs when using a usb mouse and with the integrated trackpad. if the monitor is turned off or unplugged the mouse is smooth again. .

a similar problem was reported a few years ago but somehow the thread is just archived ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1965949?start=0&tstart=0 ).

also, i had trouble with the monitor that osx recognised it as ypbpr, so i had to force it to treat it as rgb device, because otherwise the image was unsharp.

on my macbook (mid 2010) running mavericks the cursor is smooth, so the monitor and the cable are apparently not faulty.

I have the same config. 2013 11" Air 8G i7 HD5000 iGPU connected to

a Dell U2913WM over displayport since Sep.

The mouse skip every few seconds. and I was lucky enough to discover the same method as

flo.riano (switch between the "displayport 1.2" in the monitor's settings) so I can using my system *_^

I ask apple about the problem but haven't receive any response.

A few things to note:

1.If connect the monitor to my AIR using DVI converter have no problem.

2.I didn't force EDID to use RGB mode b4 I discover the switching trick. So it shouldn't be related

to the RGB mode issue.

3.It work on my machine if it's running bootcamp with Win7. So the Windows driver is ok.

So most probably a problem with the display system/driver in OSX.

4.My colleague's 2012 mac air connect to my monitor(Displayport) just fine.

5.A PC using ATI 7970 connect via display port have no problem too.

6.Although I believe a display driver update should fix the problem. I also notice EIZO release a firmware for

one of their monitor which seems to have the same problem. So it should be fixable with a monitor firmware update as well.

http://www.eizo.com/global/support/compatibility/fw1_01/index.html

7.This problem appear on different model of monitor from different manufactures, So it's not a problem

with paticular manufacture's problem

If anyone from apple is reading this, please put this in the bug list.

THIS IS A REAL BUG/ISSUE and not some isolated compatibility problem.

Goodluck to us~ 😝

Well, experiencing this too.

Setup:

OS X 10.9.4

Macbook Pro 15" Late 2013 with nVIDIA chip

miniDP to VGA adapter i just bought today

an LG W2452T as external monitor

I'm gonna test this with a Samsung and another Monitor by a dead brand i don't even know the name of anymore just to be sure it's not my monitor acting up. Although, i had it connected to a linux desktop some days ago.

I have a late 2012 27" iMac with an Asus PB278Q external monitor connected via mini display port to display port. I have the the same cursor lag/eratic cursor issue with a bonus of both displays sometimes just being black. The cool part is that when both displays are black the cursor is visible and doesn't lag. Awesome. I bought several cable thinking that was the problem. The apple display always come back if I just unplug the cable from the mini port, and sometimes comes back if I turn the Asus off, although it can take a few tries. This is my work machine so this is very annoying. I had high hopes that Yosemite would solve the problem but it has not.

I'd also like to mention that this is my 3rd iMac, the other two have been replaced under apple care for excessive image retention. This one has it too but there is no fix and I can't afford to be without the machine while they're (not) fixing. Apple is really on a roll.

Fuenticito, that is a great suggestion. I just submitted feedback and I will do so again every time I have the issue, which is several times a day. I created a text doc with the feedback link, and my feedback, which I'll keep open on my desktop to speed up the process. Note that you only get so many characters so be concise. Hopefully, If everyone does this Apple will not continue to ignore the issue.

I'm also having this problem with the U28D590 4k Samsung Monitor when using PIP/PBP. It's really annoying. I submitted feedback referencing this thread and I also reccomend everyone else does as well.

Toggling the display port version from 1.2 to 1.1 back to 1.2 only worked the first time I tried it. I turned the monitor off and on and now it doesn't seem to do anything.

This is not a mouse problem. It's a display problem.

Same problem here with a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite 10.10.1

At work I try to use a setup with a DELL U2412M and also tried with a Samsung Syncmaster 24" both connected via Thunderbolt -> MDP -> DVI

I reported the issue to Apple via their feedback form and linked to this thread. But I have little hope that this issue will be fixed once and for all in the near future.

I have Retina MacBook Pro 13' and LG-34UM95-P ultra-wide display with Thunderbolt connector. My Logitech Anywhere MX is terrible, laggy, can not be used when an external display is connected. I use the Magic Trackpad with no problem, no lag, but I can't use all day, because it's pain in my hand. Yes I have tried a Magic Mouse, but it's not ergonomic. I hope to improve the lag, but I doubt it. If I switch to Windows, if mouse lag doesn't change. This is so horrible. I'm not an happy Apple user... Do you have any tips that will help me? Thanks!

Restarted. MacBook open, but it's still laggy.

BT off, no change.

The display doesn't freeze, just mouse cursor is laggy.

No, this is an old Microsoft Intelli mouse, and a Logitech RX250. Both are s...t.

Trackpad works fine, but uncomfortable. I have a pain in my hand.

There are times when everything is going well, but soon coming mouse lag. I don't know why... This is not the mouse problem, Apple's software is not good. I have used Windows. Any mouse is perfect, no lag, no delay. I'm tired...
