Mouse cursor lags with external monitor

hello,

i have just purchased a dell u2913wm monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1080. when connected to my macbook air (with mountain lion) using a mini displayport cable my cursor starts lagging on both screens. basically, when i move the mouse along a line on my desk the cursor results in a very erratic trajectory. this occurs when using a usb mouse and with the integrated trackpad. if the monitor is turned off or unplugged the mouse is smooth again. .

a similar problem was reported a few years ago but somehow the thread is just archived ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1965949?start=0&tstart=0 ).

also, i had trouble with the monitor that osx recognised it as ypbpr, so i had to force it to treat it as rgb device, because otherwise the image was unsharp.

on my macbook (mid 2010) running mavericks the cursor is smooth, so the monitor and the cable are apparently not faulty.

I have the same config. 2013 11" Air 8G i7 HD5000 iGPU connected to

a Dell U2913WM over displayport since Sep.

The mouse skip every few seconds. and I was lucky enough to discover the same method as

flo.riano (switch between the "displayport 1.2" in the monitor's settings) so I can using my system *_^

I ask apple about the problem but haven't receive any response.

A few things to note:

1.If connect the monitor to my AIR using DVI converter have no problem.

2.I didn't force EDID to use RGB mode b4 I discover the switching trick. So it shouldn't be related

to the RGB mode issue.

3.It work on my machine if it's running bootcamp with Win7. So the Windows driver is ok.

So most probably a problem with the display system/driver in OSX.

4.My colleague's 2012 mac air connect to my monitor(Displayport) just fine.

5.A PC using ATI 7970 connect via display port have no problem too.

6.Although I believe a display driver update should fix the problem. I also notice EIZO release a firmware for

one of their monitor which seems to have the same problem. So it should be fixable with a monitor firmware update as well.

http://www.eizo.com/global/support/compatibility/fw1_01/index.html

7.This problem appear on different model of monitor from different manufactures, So it's not a problem

with paticular manufacture's problem

If anyone from apple is reading this, please put this in the bug list.

THIS IS A REAL BUG/ISSUE and not some isolated compatibility problem.

Goodluck to us~ 😝

I have a 15" Late 2013 Retina MBP, with two 20" external displays. I am having the same mouse lag issue, but only when the monitors are off. At night the displays hurt my eyes so I would normally turn them off to reduce eye strain. Now I can't do that.

Hopefully Apple fixes this eventually, but it seems like it's been an issue for years so I don't think there's hope.

Updated to Mavericks 10.9.3 and still have the problem.

MBP Mid 2012

Dell P2314H

Mini DisplayPort -> VGA Adapter

Apple Magic Mouse

Tried:

Sleep for 10 seconds (works for a short moment and then gets back)

Open MacBook (realized that trackpad is not laggy at all)

Microsoft USB Mouse (It works)

Microsoft Wireless Mouse (same problem)

Dell Wireless Mouse (It works)

Not grounded power cable

Will try:

Different adapter

Display Port option in monitor

It ***** so much, i'm probably going to sell this MacBook, its my first Mac and i got two problems in a week (this topic problem + bluetooth headset), Apple seems to not care.

Currently running OS X 10.9.3 and still experiencing pretty significant lagging with the wireless bluetooth mouse. Running two external LG/23''inch monitors via HDMI to USB adapters. Have turned off and back on, changed batteries, deleted old system pref, and still the curser lags. Any suggestions?

I am currently running OS X 10.9.3 using a Dell u2713HM and experience significant jumps despite the hope from some posts that 10.9.3 would fix it. I've tried the displayport version changes as well as dissabling DDC/CI. I've shut it off, unplugged it, rebooted, shut down, plugged the mouse USB direct to the macbook pro, etc and had no luck. I would say every 10 seconds or so the mouse jumps as much as half of the monitor. I just received the monitor last week. Prior to using the new monitor I had never experienced this problem. Any suggestions?

I'm running 10.9.4 and Logitech Control Center 3.9.1 and also has the lags.

When I have no monitor connected, the mouse cursor is smooth without any problem, but when I connect my Dell U2713HM the mouse is laggy almost every 10s. In Logitech Control Center and Unifying SW I can see that mouse is active and when I see lag on the screen in the software shows mouse inactive..

Is there any new solution?

Hi, I have a very similar issue, although the problem only occurs when the external monitor is powered off (or displaying input from another source whilst still connected to my Macbook.)

I have a Late 2013 13" Retina Macbook Pro running the latest Mavericks (10.9.4) and I connect it to a BenQ GL2450H monitor using a HDMI cable via the Macbook's dedicated HDMI port. I also connect the monitor to a PC via the DVI input, and regularly switch the monitor between the two sources. This was working fine until very recently.

However, over the last few days (since the 10.9.4 update I think) if I turn the monitor off, or switch it to the PC, the mouse on my Macbook keeps freezing up (in fact, I think it's the display itself that is freezing, rather than the mouse which appears to 'jump' every time the display recovers.)

As soon as I switch the monitor back on / change the input source back to my Macbook, everything works perfectly again! Literally the second I hit the power switch in the monitor, the Macbook is restored to normal operation. If I power off again, the freezing starts once more. As far as I can tell, the Macbook is running perfectly normally otherwise, even when affected by the freezing issues. There are no processes eating up all my CPU / RAM. I've also tried resetting both the SMC and PRAM.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Thanks,

James.

Ok guys, this is really strange. I seem to have fixed the problem!(or at least mine)

This is my setup:

MBP Retina 13" - Late 2013

1x LG 24" (24MP76) bought 2 months ago

1x LG 24" (24MP76) bought a week ago, seems to have a newer firmware or revision

The HDMI->MiniDP cable was connected to the "older" display.

The HDMI->HDMI cable was connected to the new display.

By switching the HDMI->MiniDP cable to the "new" display, the problem disappeared. I'm unable to get the cursor lag again.

I've tried putting the computer to sleep, shut down the monitors, change display setup in System Preferences. Unable to get the cursor freeze/lag again!
