why does my music have a red circle with a square dot beside it?

On my iPad 3, in music, some of my songs have a red circle with a square dot, the songs are grayed out and I am unable to play them. Is there a new setting with ios 7? Does it no longer play mp3's?

iPad 2, iOS 7.0.3

This worked for me after NOTHING ELSE did (resets, re-installs, removing iTunes library, sync after sync).I have a little clean-up work with playlists to do due to the OTHER stuff I tried, but that's no problem compared to the frustration from before. Thanks for the simple answer that worked! (BTW, the settings I used after putting the music back in iTunes was -uncheck "only sync checked music" and -check "sync entire library" and then I pared down from there with subsequent syncs.
