responses to meeting invitations end up in Drafts mailbox and not automatically sent

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

I did. Many, many times. I did the Yosemite public beta and submitted bugs for each and every build of the 6 builds they had, reporting the same issue. I even put a link to this discussion in one of them.

This literally happens with everyone at my company on Mavericks (and now Yosemite). I don't know how else to get someone to pay attention to it.

Perhaps it depends on the version of Exchange?

I'm using Yosemite public release version 10.10 with Mail 8.0, and I have this issue -- when I accept or decline a meeting, the response sits in my Drafts folder and never gets sent to the organizer. Looking forward to having this bug fixed.

Same problem with invite responses going to Drafts, but now, when I look at that folder and touch a message, Mail crashes. Help, please, before I'm forced to return to Outlook!!

I'm facing the same issue. It seems specific to Calendar rather than Mail. When I use BusyCal (paid app), it works fine in all the scenarios. Though I prefer the cleaner look of Calendar, I'll go with BusyCal until this is fixed.

I was hoping that the 10.10.1 update would fix things (since the mention Exchange servers), but at least on my side the problem seems to be the same as before.

I've bounced around a few mail and calendar options recently. I've finally (re)settled on Outlook. The latest release for Office 365 -- I have v15.3 at the moment -- is decent. It's fast, usable, and has a clean design. And most importantly for this thread, the calendar and mail integration works perfectly.

Same issue. mavericks, calendar accepts end up in drafts. Extremely frustrating for those of us whom are OCD about keeping mail application clean and tidy.

Tried to select the right email account, email address, etc... No change!

Been going on for over a year where it previously worked flawlessly...

I know how annoying this is - I suffer from it too. But I solved it by going into:

MAIL / PREFERENCES / ACCOUNTS / MAILBOX BEHAVIORS and deselecting "Store draft messages on the server".

That cleans up your drafts folder.

I know it's non-optimal because you may want to save your drafts on the server as opposed to your machine, but the 1000s of Cal draft accumulation drives me more bonkers.

I Assume the organize still doesn't get notified of your response...?

This looks to be fixed in 10.10.2, released today January 27 2015.
