Quick Look not working properly since OS X Mavericks update

When I select a file and press the space button to give it a quick look, it will either show the next file in the list or nothing at all. Sometimes it does show the right file, but doesn't stick to the right order if I press the arrow buttons. It was working perfectly fine before I updated to Mavericks.

Is anyone else experiencing anything similar? How can I solve this? I really like the quick look functionality and use it a lot, please help!

Works just fine for me... are you certain that you don't have any third-party kernel extensions or 'haxies' that might cause these Quick Look problems?

Interesting—for me, this solved the problem:

defaults write com.apple.finder QLEnableTextSelection -boolean NO; killall Finder;

BUT deleting it (which worked for the peopel above) did NOT.

So if you have the "white screen" bug and running the "delete" command doesn't seem to work, try this "-boolean NO" one.

Maybe no one from Apple reading this discussion. And we will be always without quck view. I really hate it. What's happened with support???

"Apple" doesn't read these discussions. They are for users to help each other if possible. If we want to get the attention of "Apple" we need to file feedback reports, e.g. this one is for general feedback on OS X: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

It seems the option to "enable text copying from Quick Look" if turned on is causing this bug for some, it was the problem for me. So the Terminal commands as suggested in this other discussion and here turn it off, I however used Cocktail software to do this (if you have Onyx it can also do it). In Cocktail it is under Interface > Finder > then untick "enable text copying from Quick Look", then click the Relaunch button to restart the Finder. Problem was resolved after that.

Of course, it means I can't use a feature that Finder is meant to provide, that of text copying which I find very handy, hence I turned it on. Have reported the bug http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

Hi Jonescreative.

I'm glad I found this post I've got the exact same issue as your having. Did you manage to get yours fixed? Or have you installed OSX again?

If i try and open any image file with Quick Look, Preview or IPhoto then I get the same white lines/blocks running through my pictures. But If i open the images with Safari,Chrome or a couple of others programs then the images are fine. If you resize the image by dragging the window, then sometimes the lines go, or there are less of them.

Quick Look on the left and the same image opened in Chrome on the right.

I still have my backup Mountain Lion and this isn't a issue with ML. I noticed it pretty soon after I upgraded to Mavericks but thought it was a graphic card bug that would be fixed with a Apple update. 10.9.4 and waiting 😟

Ive been suffering from the "blank Quicklook image" bug as well, and I think have solved it on my machine (running 10.10.5).

Lots of postings elsewhere suggesting that caused by undocumented TextSelection feature, which when activated allows text to be selected and copied in Quicklook windows, and which can be de-activated via Terminal.

I vaguely remembered activating it. It can be activated and de-activated using Onyx (Parameters > Finder > Misc. options), so I checked there - but NOT activated. I then remembered I've also used Tinkertool in the past. I checked there, and behold, under Applications, was Quicklook-> allow copy operations – which was ticked. I UN-ticked it – problem gone!
