Quick Look not working properly since OS X Mavericks update

When I select a file and press the space button to give it a quick look, it will either show the next file in the list or nothing at all. Sometimes it does show the right file, but doesn't stick to the right order if I press the arrow buttons. It was working perfectly fine before I updated to Mavericks.

Is anyone else experiencing anything similar? How can I solve this? I really like the quick look functionality and use it a lot, please help!

Works just fine for me... are you certain that you don't have any third-party kernel extensions or 'haxies' that might cause these Quick Look problems?

Yeah they've messed up quicklook on Mavericks.

I get spinning beachballs all the time and it's generally terrible (all throughout mavericks, not just quicklook).

Already had to reinstall mavericks once because the mac app store just flat out refused to work anymore.

At least it seems to be a common problem as many sites are reporting mavrricks is pretty slow, especially quicklook. For example: http://lifehacker.com/should-i-upgrade-to-os-x-mavericks-1449627553

OS X Mavericks suffers from a speed decrease. Through our own experience and discussions with other users online, it looks like the latest update just slows things down for everyone. Why? We're not really sure. QuickLook, for example, seems to load incredibly slowly and nothing should cause that. Generally speaking, things just move quite a bit slower.

Hopefully apple pushes out some updates quickly!

Edit: Probably should mention i'm using a top of the line 15" Retina Macbook Pro, so it cant be hardware.

clintonfrombirminghamNo, I haven't downloaded anything lately.

Nikhilr Yes, I've been experiencing some delay on my computer too - nothing too big though. One thing I've been noticing in particular is a very annoying delay when I'm editing a picture, changing the exposure or contrast levels, for instance. I try to drag that little arrow left or right and it takes a while to move. And just for the record, I have a retina macbook too, 13".

Quicklook doesn't work at all for me with jpg and png but DOES show gifs. Weirdest thing in the world. When I boot in Safe Mode, all work. Deleted all 3rd party and still no fix. Erased and fresh install, still no fix.

AppleCare 2nd tier support says this is "very rare."

I need a fix. Some transition issues in FCPx, but I didn't even bother dig into that.

I'm told downgrading back to 10.8 is not advised because 10.9 upgraded the firmware and may cause incompatibility issues.

What a mess!

yup same problem here; quicklook shows the wrong files, is slow and laggy, doesn't update when you delete files.. and sometimes just stops compeltely.

sometimes I wonder if they beta test this stuff at all. Jeez it's a core feature used hundreds of times a day by probably the vast majority of users. Get it right. Fix it. Fix it NAO.

I am also having quicklook problems.

In my case, if I use QuickLook much at all, and in particular almost any time I drag an image to the desktop from Chrome, I get a 2-second pause (and sometimes the Finder crashes and re-launches), and I see this in the terminal:

11/1/13 12:40:37.355 AM com.apple.IconServicesAgent[306]: main Failed to composit image for binding VariantBinding [0x49f] flags: 0x8 binding: FileInfoBinding [0x2c9] - extension: png ...

and

11/1/13 12:40:37.355 AM quicklookd[832]: Warning: Cache image returned by the server has size range covering all valid image sizes. Binding: VariantBinding [0x203] flags: 0x8 binding: FileInfoBinding [0x103] - extension: png, ...

This would be OK if it didn't also involve the Finder freezing up randomly.

I'm having another issue with Quick Look which I haven't heard anyone else having this problem. Hopefully someone else is seeing this same problem but after upgrading to Mavericks I've noticed white dots all over my images when viewing in iPhoto but the biggest problem and annoying issue is when looking at images either the preview or hitting the space bar, I'm getting white squares all over the preview image.

I have attached screen shots showing the problems. Hopefully Apple will come out with some updates to resolve many issues like the lagging time when using Quick Look as well as the performance. I haven't seen any increase in performance at all.
