Unable to connect to network printer

After installing Mavericks i cannot print anymore on my network printer.

The printer has connected to a Windows XP pc, i see it under settings Windows printer but when i launch a print the printer goes into pause state. The message i see is "unable to connect to printer".

I had this connection since Snow Leopard > Mountain Lion and it has always worked.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I'm not using a network printer, I'm using a printer connected directly to my computer. I have 2 printers in my house. An HP 3050 LaserJet which I LOVE and an HP 5510 inkjet printer, which I'm learnind to adore.

In my March 6 post, I indicated that Maverick fixed my printer problem (my 3050 all of the sudden wouldn't print any more, I got an error message). And it did fix it for a week.

Then my 3050 started acting up again. It works fine connected with my husband's PC, but not with my Mac anymore. Even though I did the latest updates, and HP's website says that it works with Maverick. So I swapped printers with my husband- the 5510 Inkjet. It wasn't working. It gave me the response that the printer is not responding.

So.. in my list of printers, I have my 3050 and the 5510. The 5510 would work for one or two print jobs and then give me an error of not responding. I would delete the printer and add it again, and it would work for another print job, then not respond.

What I discovered was that when I print, I need to select the 3050 printer first, then the 5510 and then click print- now it prints every time.

I need to make sure I change the printer every time but at least it's working. It's the only way I could get it to work consistently. It's like the 5510 doesn't like being the default printer.

I hope this helps!

I have an HP Officejet J6400 series printer. Prior to installing Mavericks I had no problems printing over wifi network with stand alone printer. I've done all of the suggestions here, removing printer, reinstalling it, checked HP website and it says get the drivers from Apple, try to update Mavericks OS, reboot both computer and printer and shut down and restart wifi network. I can get the computer to see th printer, I can get it to print but what it does is print everything starting with the 2nd page only and printing it in miniture 4 to a page like it's a card printing or something. It prints only the 2nd page or 2nd half of first page. Any suggestions for the fix for this? Never had a problem with this printer and I'd like to keep it and not have to upgrade to a new one. It's not that old!

Okay. Today, 4/3/2014. My wonderful birthday gift - Macbook Pro Retina Display. What a Crock.

I am printing to network printer however. I use at work the - Canon iR-ADV C5045.

I went to Printers & Scanners, then clicked the + and selected IP.

Address = Network Printer's IP address

Protocol = Line Printer Daemon - LPD

Queue = blank

Name = Whatever the name of your printer is "on the network"

Location = Where the printer is location... i.e., administration office, faculty affairs office, etc...

Use = Generic PostScript Printer (this is working or me)

Then click add.

NOW...

My printer icon looks like a desktop printer as opposed to the Network printer it SHOULD look like but when I test print... It prints fine. There was also the opportunity to select "duplexing" for my printer so I selected it just in case. I don't know if it makes a difference but before trying any of this, I downloaded the available drivers for my printer just so they'd be on the computer if "BIG OLE MAVERVICK OSX 10.9" was looking for them. Happy printing. I'd be interested to know if this work for anyone else. TRY IT and ignore what the printer Icon looks like.

Peace out.

SHAME ON YOU APPLE FOR DOING THIS TO YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS!!!

I just got a mac air 13" and can not print to Konica Bizhub network printer. I have downloaded the drivers and intalled and reinstalled the printer. It worked before on my old air (2010 model) but no luck here. It will print some things but not a pdf or my ical which I have to print daily. I am running Maverick 10.9.2. At this time I am saving everything to pdf and putting it on a jumpdrive and moving it to my windows computer to print. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or a link to download a driver that will work properly with all the programs. Thanks!

I am running on maverick 10.9.2. A USB printer hook up to router with print server feature. In the router > print server page it shows the printer path http://192.168.0.1:631/printers/myprinter.

I do not have problem setting network printer on Windows 7 and XP, it installed and work like a charm.

But on it fails on maverick. Hook up the printer to XP and run LPD service on it is not an option for me because I do not have an old PC as dedicated server. I tried all protocol from the pull down menu in the add printer window I just couldnt get it work.

I learned that 10.9.2 had fix the issues on network printer (printer directly hook up on the LAN) but I could not find any fix for the setup like mine.

Anybody kind enough to enlighthen me on this?

(For future reference - if you want help, you should start a new topic with your specific issue. If you notice, this thread is overflowing with issues not directly related to yours!)

You have not told us what brand/model of printer it is. Most "USB-only" printers have USB-only drivers provided for Mac users. Manufacturers don't want to encourage Mac users to use cheap printers as network printers.

Drivers that fully utilize all the comm protocols that OS X offers are called CUPS/modular drivers.

Gutenprint drivers are CUPS drivers and work over USB or network:

I also have a Samsung ML-2165w printer. It works fine with my Apple computer, OS X 10.9.2.

So, your problem is something else.

The driver for this printer model is available for auto-download from Apple's servers, as listed here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669#samsung

The driver is ML-2160 Series, version 1.05.07.

Did you delete ( - ) the printer from Print & Scan prefs and Add it again?

After adding the printer, please go to options & supplies and check driver version.

If none of this helps, please Reset the Printing System, then Add again:
