For me the easiest workaround was to turn Wifi off, then Wifi on. Otherwise it could not find the same WiFi signals it had previously before sleeping.

I recently found this solution on another thread and so far its working for me. Basically you need to go into your network settings and set up a new location.

This may solve your issues too:

Venting here: but I have a macbook and I use it everywhere so stop trying to pin me to a location. I wound up deleting my 'Automatic' location and making my own fictitious 'My macbook' location. That just seems stupid.

My circa 2010 iMac has developed this problem too. I have tried everything here:

http://howtoapple.com/mavericks-wifi-issues-fix/

to no avail though perhaps it has made things a little better.

I have just changed to Virgin Media and I know my hub is still connected to the internet because I have a hard-wired (Ethernet) Mac Mini on the network. But the iMac and any mobile devices (iPads, iPhones, etc) lose connection and then totally fail to 'see' the WiFi at all. Even being right next to the hub with an iPad or switching WiFi on and off fail to make any difference and I have to restart the hub.

This is the only thing that will bring WiFi back.

I kept WiFi for about 24 hours just but then it dropped once I started using my iPad so I'm wondering if this might be the problem. I have now switched off iCloud and Keychain on the iPad to see if that is the cause and I also wonder if there is an IP address conflict but I'm not very 'techie'

I've used Macintosh's since 1986 and I have to say recently Apple have been a bit shoddy in their software upgrades. For instance the new GarageBand is so full of bugs I can't use it and I use the older version.

Nah, there's always a couple of bugs with every upgrade, but this is the first time I've seen it go so long without a fix. They've yet to update the OS at all. I don't know what the holdup is, since this is one of the only problems I've seen with Mavericks. I submitted the bug to their feedback site but I'm not sure that's where it was supposed to go. Someone else linked it earlier in this thread.

The only thing shoddy is the way the forums are designed. The non-friendly redirect on sign-in and the fact that I don't stay signed in longer than a day.

Same problem here.

- Wifi drops at seemingly random occasions, as often as every couple minutes.

- Other devices in the house are unaffected.

- Signal strength is strong.

- Wireless diagnostics finds no problems, though when the diagnostic scan is running the wifi seems to stay connected.

Very annoying. Regretting the Mavericks update for this and other issues (time machine irregular, coloured labels gone...).

Where's the update Apple?!

Will send direct feedback.

I have the same problem since I upgraded the OS to marvericks. my internet connection keeps dropping either from ethernet cable or with wifi, like every 15mins. so everytime i need to turn off the wifi and turn it on again or make whatever changes on network settings for ethernet. this is really frustrating. it seemed the latest OS update for ver 10.9.1 didnt fix any for this issue. hope apple recognizes this problem...

Same problem here.

- Wifi drops at least 5 times a day. Previously never.

- iPad never disconnects.

- I'm literally 6 feet away from the router.

Why should we have to jump through hoops trying out fixes that others claim work or from comments most of the time don't. With so many people having the same problem it should be obvious to Apple that there is a problem and they need to fix this now. As far as I know they're not even acknowledging there is a problem.

What kind of crap is that. They should at least say they're working on it. I thought the upgrade the other day would do something. Nothing. 😠

Appears they've adopting damaging customer service practices from MS.

I had these problems (as reported earlier) and tried various of the reported fixes with no effect. But coincidentally (maybe) since yesterday's upgrade to OSX 10.9.1 the problem seems to have gone away.

So either:

1) They have fixed it on the quiet without the embarrassment of acknowledging there was ever a problem.

2) It's not fixed because it is more puzzling and Apple are still trying to figure it out. This could easily be the case because what works for one person hasn't worked for others so it could be a bit mysterious.

Anyway fingers crossed my iMac is now fixed but i'm not holding my breath,

FIXED:

Today I upgraded a new (boxed) MBP 13" Retina. It was running 10.8.4. - I upgraded to 10.9 and then applied the latest Mavericks Update. Almost immediately the the unit started to drop the wifi every 20 - 30 seconds. I fixed the issue as follows:

1. Network Preferences : Make a New Location

2. Click Flywheel Bottom left and open Set Service Order:

Remove All Service Names not used.

Place wifi at top.

3. Change MTU to 1453.

This can be done manually or via terminal with this command.

networksetup -setMTU en0 1453

Staying in Terminal Copy / Paste / Enter the following commands (EACH SEPERATELY and in the numbered order...excluding the numerals and corresponding period!)

1. cd Library/LaunchAgents
2. mkdir Back
3. mv *.plist Back
4. cd /Library/LaunchAgents
5. sudo mkdir Back
6. sudo mv *.plist Back
7. cd ../LaunchDaemons
8. sudo mkdir Back
9. sudo mv *.plist Back

Restart Computer via Apple Logo Top Left

WiFi will work normally.

One Last thing..... If youre on a home network like I am, open Airport Utility and check your Wireless Security. Mine read WPA2 Personal. I changed this to WPA/WPA2 Personal

I definitely think this is a Mavericks issue. My iMac running Mavericks is the ONLY system in the house that drops the network randomly while all other systems never lose the network. No idea how to resolve this, but here is the workaround I'm posting:

I've had the 'network drop' issue with my Airport Extreme for the last 2 months. It reconnects when I pull the ethernet cable and plug it back in. I've tried downgrading the AE firmware, resetting to factory, etc. Nothing worked. I finally threw in the towel and created a script that monitors my network connectivity and restarts my interface if it senses it has dropped:

##############

#!/bin/ksh

while true

do

yup=`ping -c1 -t2 www.google.com|grep from`

if [[ -n $yup ]]

then echo "Internet is connected!"

else

ifconfig en0 down; ifconfig en0 up

echo "Down at `date +%m%d%Y%H%M%S`">>./dropped.out

fi

sleep 5

clear

done

###############

I know its a workaround, but its saving me the headache of constantly pulling my cable and putting it back in!

Good luck!

Over the last couple of months I have tried all of the remedies suggested here to no avail. This week I wiped clean my hard drive and fresh installed Mavericks. It worked like a dream; for all of two days. Now I'm back to manually switching on and off my wi-fi, and, as a bonus I now get the whirling pizza of death with just about every function. It's like dial-up was 15 years ago, only alot more expensive.😐

It may just be coincidence but after trying everything mentioned here unsuccessfully I seem to have fixed my problem.

By making a hard-wired connection of my circa 2009 iMac using a thing like this that connects using the domestic mains electricity cable and two nearby outlets:

NETGEAR Powerline XAVB1301 Bridge.

Since making this switch all the other devices in the house including a brand new MacBook Pro, various iPads and iPhones all manage to maintain their wireless connection because the WiFi doesn't disappear as it had been doing (and requiring a restart of the hub).

So me thinks that maybe the problem lay somewhere in the iMac trying to maintain its WiFi connection ...which it now no longer needs to do because it is physically connected.

Jan 3, 2014 3:16 AM in response to jc in NE

Update to my previous post. After three days with completely reliable WiFi it dropped again last night but this was when I temporarily reconnected our internet enabled TV to the hub using a nearby connection (actually used for the Tivo box).

So the "NETGEAR Powerline XAVB1301 Bridge" type connection the TV had been previously using which I re-allocated to the iMac and thought it cured the problem may have been masking the real problem.

So when I thought making a hard-connection for the iMac cured the problem it may have been removing the hard-connection of the TV was the actual cure.

Hope this makes sense and that it may help anyone else.
