I have the sme problem. its defintely something to do with thier software upgrade becuse my mac never did this until recently and the other devices including Windows, Android and IOS7[ ipads and i phones] all work fine on the home newtork and dont drop the connection. Resetting the networkpreferences on my Mac doesnt work either. As soon as you let the mac sleep the connection is dropped .Whe you return it tries to reconnect but cant find any nwtwrks at all let alone your preferred one. . The only way to get it back is by switching off wi fi on the task bar and tuning it on again [even then it tells you it cant find your preferred nwetwork and presents you witha list of netwrks - to reconnect you must choose your prefereed one from the list]. It is really annoying. When is Apple going to sort this?I have Mavericks OS X10.9..2

Exact same issue here. Late 2009 white Macbook running Mavericks 10.9.2 and wifi just stops working. Shows that it's still connected but the pages just stop loading till I turn wifi off and back on again. It's happening every 15-20 minutes even when I'm actively browsing. I want to throw my computer through the window. I'm happy to find that it's not just me but Apple really needs to address this!

On Monday this week I had a second visit to the genius bar at the Apple store for this same problem. I explained that the first visit hadn't achived anything, and that in the interim I had done a Mavericks re-install as instructed, which also hadn't worked. They gave me a hard drive wipe-clean and a fresh reinstall of Mavericks while I was there. Once again it's had no effect. My internet drops every time the lid's closed and now if I leave my Mac unattended for ten minutes, I get thrown right back out to the sign-in screen.

The genius who was trying to fix it for me at the store asked around amongst his colleagues to see if anybody else had heard of this problem (because I told him there was a fairly active discussion about it on Apple's own forum) and the guy on the next desk said that "yes Apple were aware of it; and no, they hadn't yet got a clue what was causing it."

In the meantime I'm still stuck with a very expensive six month old piece of junk.😠

im glad that i found this discussion as ive had 3 serious issue with apple products so far and i was alone with them. SO on one hand im glad on the second hand i am about to freaking smash my laptop as it keep losing the connection just as with you guys. i wonder why dont they acknowledge it so at least we would know they are working on it. Apple products are not that cheap to tollerate these kind of failures. lets just hope none of the apple fan boys will come up now and ask why do i need internet for ( as whenever i had problem that was the intilial reaction: why do you want notificvation , why do you want to remote control your ipad)

Not to worry, Apple will fix it sometime shortly before your MacBook has reached its 'best before date'... I too am shocked that it affects so many and Apple appears to be doing nothing. Prior to Mavericks there was no complaints about connections being lost.

It's really amazing that they're prepared to take a serious hit on their image because of this Mavericks problem...

After my second Genius bar visit proved unsuccessful I went back to the Apple store in Covent Garden armed with my MacBook determined to get satisfaction. After being told that I needed an appointment and explaining that I'd had two already, thanks very much; I was taken back to the Genius bar. I told the Genius what I'd already had done and that if a hard-drive wipe clean and fresh re-install of Mavericks were in the offing, not to bother, because those had both been done ad infinitum. We discussed all of the symptoms; when they occured, what contributing factors there were, what I had to do to rectify them etc. He then came to the opinion that they should change out the AirPort card, as this could really be the only thing causing the problem. So I left it with them for a few days, picked it up and, I'm very happy to report, the problem is gone.

I'm not technical enough to know if this was caused by some sort of software conflict between Mavericks and the existing AirPort card, but it seems coincidental that lots of other people have suffrered from the same symptoms immediately upon upgrading to Mavericks.

You are a Genuis!! it worked! I was about to take my new MBP Retina back to the store because i figured it was faulty because of the horrible internet connection. I couldn't do anything unless i used the computer upstairs in my room.

I only did steps 1-3, the rest was a bit too complicated for me to figure out. Even so, my computer works like when I first got it two weeks ago :-) Yay!!!

CTaztec. I have applied your fix, but just the command entries and MBP is still going ok 5 hours later.

This also comes after I had gone through a process with Apple Support (online) which had me deleting config files, etc.

My problem seemed a little different from everybody else and started only after updating to Mavericks 10.9.3

My WiFi connection seems to stay up, or according to the Network Preferences.

After re-boot, or log off from user and back on, I would have Internet access for about 10 mins or until MBT goes into Sleep, but then I can't get to anything via a Web Browser (Safari or Firefox). This also included the App Store, or downloading attachments in Outlook (Mac version).

I could still Ping my local router, and Web addresses outside my home network. I could also tranfer data to a NAS drive on my home netwrok (while still on WiFi).

I thought this may have been a Java problem as I had a Java update come through around the same time the issue started, so Uninstalled Java, but still had the same problem.

So, my problem seems to be related to how the browser interacts with Network devices and causing my issue.

As stated at the start here, CTaztec's solution has seemingly fixed my issue. Will update this forum if it starts playing up again.

I definitely think this is a Mavericks issue. My iMac running Mavericks is the ONLY system in the house that drops the network randomly while all other systems never lose the network. No idea how to resolve this, but here is the workaround I'm posting:

I've had the 'network drop' issue with my Airport Extreme for the last 2 months. It reconnects when I pull the ethernet cable and plug it back in. I've tried downgrading the AE firmware, resetting to factory, etc. Nothing worked. I finally threw in the towel and created a script that monitors my network connectivity and restarts my interface if it senses it has dropped:

##############

#!/bin/ksh

while true

do

yup=`ping -c1 -t2 www.google.com|grep from`

if [[ -n $yup ]]

then echo "Internet is connected!"

else

ifconfig en0 down; ifconfig en0 up

echo "Down at `date +%m%d%Y%H%M%S`">>./dropped.out

fi

sleep 5

clear

done

###############

I know its a workaround, but its saving me the headache of constantly pulling my cable and putting it back in!

Good luck!

mikengray's solution is the only thing that worked for me. I modified the script as 'ifconfig up/down' required root privilages so this uses the 'networksetup' command. This script seems to do a decent job at reconnecting after sleeping the laptop. Now I don't have to right-click disconnect/reconnect the WIFI every 5 minutes. Also this script keeps a log in the home folder of all the dropouts. Looking at the log for yesterday there are over 100 dropouts throughout the day.

Put this in a textfile 'keepalive-script' in your home folder and 'sudo chmod +x ~/keepalive-script' it in the terminal to make it executable on double-click. I moved mine to the desktop and run it when I log in, leaving it on in the corner of the screen...

#! /bin/bash

# connection. Pings Google DNS.

# Greps for a line with

# 'round-trip', fills yup

# variable if found.

if [[ -n $yup ]]

then echo "wifi" # We have a connection.

sleep 1 # Wait before trying again.

else

echo "DOWN at `date +%Y%m%d-%H%M-%S`" # No connection! Log the time.
