My iPhone 4S won't slide to unlock?

This morning, after updating a few apps, my phone no longer resonds when I swipe to unlock it. I know the touch screen works, as I have the assisstive touch button (my sleep button is broken) and I can drag that around all of the screen fine. I can also swipe up and access the settings panel, but the actual options don't respond to my touch.
I have iOS 7.0.2, and I don't know if there's a new update available. I tried to plug my phone to my laptop to see if I could update, but iTunes no longer recognises my phone.
I asked Siri to show me the unlock key pad so I could type my password in, but the number buttons are unresponsive. Another thing with using Siri - I can hold my home button down to get him to work, and once he's answered my question I can't tap the screen to ask another question; I have to hold the home button down again.
Because my sleep button is broken I can't reset it or turn it off, so I told Siri to play music at full volume, turn my wifi off, turn bluetooth on, and turn the brightness on full so it runs out of battery fast.

All I can do is hope it works again once I charge it up after draining the battery. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem if it continues?
I'm a student so replacing the phone is out of the question- I'm broke. I know it's not a hardware problem because my touch screen does work. I'm thinking maybe one of those apps I updated was dodgy and had a virus attached to it or something, as it only stopped working once I updated. HELP!

Had the same thing happen--4S 64G--Siri took over and tells me what shows on the frozen screen and the time etc when tap, but will not slide. Repeated tapping eventually allowed for code to appear on the first occurrence and after a couple of tries it worked and phone returned to normal for about 20 hours--then reverted to same problem. Dozens of tries eventually showed the pass code screen, but it would not take the Code, with Siri unhelpfully chirping the numbers pressed. Totally useless going on 20 more hours now after many reboots etc. Curiously, can read texts etc and if touch them Siri will helpfully read them off; but cannot get phone to work or unlock. The idea about having call made to my phone then swipe never worked either. Cannot answer calls; because slide won't work. Have tried to synch with Itunes and it did seem to synch--but cannot unlock screen. Going to try restore phone, but will not let me back up or restore because have a passcode, which of course will not work either because cannot slide open screen or with infrequent results from repeated tapping [with Siri helpfully chirping at every tap "unlock button"] it still not taking the passcode.

Observation--Phone had really been crappy since the ios7 upgrade last Fall--have regular problems and system crashes etc [much the same as that premature release of system software many years ago with original imac--turned me into a Windows user]. I could get a new phone I guess, but thinking might switch. Apple will be losing market with these kinds of upgrades. Sorry Apple.

Just had this prob w/my Iphone 4S, soon after upgrading several apps. Someone called me, kept tapping 'accept' to answer call, no response. Phone went to sleep. Pressed Home button; Couldn't swipe to unlock. Swiping really hard repeatedly I unlocked it, but tapping everywhere got no response. Tried Hard Shut Off- no change. Then I tried swiping UP for controls, worked, then swiped down for notifications, worked. Then I could swipe right to unlock & tap to open any app & make calls. Then, I noticed the blue dots still next to upgraded apps. Thought something got 'stuck' during that upgrade. I opened each of those apps, then swiped up to 'quit' them. That seemed to do the trick- but only for a while. Now, I'm back to square one. If phone is off, I CANNOT swipe to unlock or do ANYTHING, unless I FIRST swipe up, then swipe down. Then I can do anything as normal. At least for now. I'm convinced it can't be a hardware problem bc it wouldn't work at all; it does work with this unique sequence, & it only started this after upgrading some apps.... I'd really like a REAL fix tho...

therz an easiest way to get rid of it..

just add your number to contacts with any name u prefer, like devil, myself or just an alphabet..

now whenever u r in an annoying situation like this one but u can't ask anyone to call you,

just tap n hold the home button, voice control will be activated And say "call(whatever the name u entered for ur no.)"

call will be prompted to be busy.. Now just hang up.. Problem solved!!

just sliiideeee that thing..:)
