Most of the application fail to launch

After installing Mavericks, most of the applications on my computer couldn't not be opened.
I have no problem on the first few hours but after that lots of application that I have on my computer can't be open (eg. iMessage, FaceTime, Maps, Preview, App Store...)
Anyone have a solution on this problem or have similar problem?

MacBook (13-inch Aluminum Late 2008), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

apple are aware of the issues, but from what I've experinced over the past few day's they actuallu don't care, they have no fix for this problem other than buy a newer machine, as a claen reboot doesn't work either as mine won't accept the restore discs that came with my Imac any more due to bios update etc, Apple from what I can tell are washing there hands of the matter, hoping it will go away etc or customers will just bite the bullit and buy new systems.

I've got an appiontemnt with apple store on SUNDAY which apperently is the earliest I could get, when I first called them on Tuesday, a CS callw a arragend as a high priority, but I've never heard from them at all, arranged another one own cost?.what a **** take or what.

I think my Imac isnow fit for spares and parts basically, as to get it to work it will need new logic board, HD etc and other parts to sort it

Nobody seems to have suggested to repair the disk permissions.

If you can't open Disk Utility, boot the machine from the recovery partition (Hold Option when turning the machine on and select the apropiate one or simpley hold Command + R at startup).

From there you can use Disk Utility, and since you are there try looking for problems in the directory structure as well.

I will do it. Thanks Brian. I was wondering if you have a solution to the problem? Because I am seriously dying with this! Many suggested the clean install after backing up the data. But when I bought my mac, I got it with the snow leopard and i have those discs! So does that mean, I need to install the Snow Leopard and then update it to Mavericks again! ? 😟

Sorry, I don't. The only problems I am having are with Mail. Apply Rules no longer works. I called Apple and got bumped up to a higher level tech who talked me into deleting then re-installing my eMail account. The problem was in my Sent folder which would not respond to Aply Rules, nor could I drag and drop the items into the folder where they belonged! The problem was solved by re-installing my account ... NOT! All of the Sent items disappeared ... gone ... vanished 😮

Yes ... not to be found. Tech says, "Oh, yes, that's because you deleted the Account. You can get them back from your server." Unfortunately, not ... Most of my past messages were moved to their folders, but as soon as I upgraded to Mavericks, Apply Rules no longer worked, and drag and drop did not work, so there were quite a few in Sent. Pfffft! Gone ...
