Thank you PMcnano!

I was able to fix everything, but I still took it to Apple to re-install Mac OSX Mavericks. Oddly, it was the best experience I've had with Apple, and they got it all working. However, you helped more than anyone because, you showed us the nature of the problem and how to avoid it in the future.

Any tips on how to keep a Mac clean without using crummy software?

Hey PMCNANO!

Thank you so much for helping all of us out; I was about to do a clean re-install from backup 🙂

I went through all of my Apple apps and discovered the following aren't working:

- iBooks (even with your folder)

- Keynote (new version)

- Pages (new version)

- Numbers (new version)

- Photo Booth

- Grab

I'll update the list if I come across more, the iWork suite would be important, the others aren't - you already saved my butt though, thank you again!

I do want to thank pmcnano again, I was so scard to the point of being frantic thats not good for a person that obsesses on things that keep me awake...

I still couldnt get Ibooks to work on the Mac but it works on my ipad and thats all I care about .. I dont think I have ever used it on the Mac the most important thing for me was opening the apple store and terminal...Grab too but I went and downloaded another one I think I like better for only to capture the screen and it saves in jpeg I dont have to take into a programe to change it.. so for what I ever use it for is cool its called screen grabber so simple a baby could do it...

@ratedK mh, for the ilife apps, I think just delete em and download them from the appstore again.

Here are grab and photobooth, though, I still suggest to just do a repair install (reinstall over your current instalation without erasing anything). Too many apps broken and maybe you didnt find some other. Also, you can just do it before going to sleep. Start the installer, go to sleep and voila! when you wake up everything is fine again.

Cheers!

Hey bud

Thank you so much (again); I believe you're right, my best bet at this point would be to re-install Mavericks.

One last question though: how do I perform a repair install? I know how to do a clean re-install but I have never heard of a repair install before.

Again, thank you so much for your time and effort.

All the best :)
