I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

same problem here! I guess it happened twice of thrice, everytime using google chrome. I'm a total beginner with mac and os x since this is my very first os x computer, but i'm pretty sure this is the same problem. the trackpad and the keyboard are completely off except the power button, the screen is responsive and i can see the window for shutting down, restart etc the macbook when i press the power button for more than 3 seconds. I just keep pressing it and force shut it down, when i reboot everything is perfect.

EDIT: probably worth mentioning, my configuration is the one with 256GB ssd and 8GB of ram.

What's interesting is, I have noticed a trend with respect to everyone using the mid-spec 2.6GHz i5, 256GB SSD.

With the exception of a few people, is this an indication that everyone just went with the mid-spec model? Or does this mean that people with 128GB/512GB/1TB SSDs aren't having issues? Also, there is the CPU too.

I made a Google Docs form, please submit your specs, so we can get a breakdown if this is an isolated issue:

Same issue here. Froze one time for me, but this error consistanly comes up:

kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

My config is Late 2013 13' 2.4 GHz, 8GB RAM, 254 Gb SSD

Apple support made me repair disk perissions, Reset PRAM, and Hardware check. No hardware issues were detected, but the error still shows up.

Intially I thought this was an isolated issues after starting this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5484623?answerId=23553359022#23553359022&ac_cid=op123456#23553359

However it now looks like a real issue with the MBP 13 inch mid spec 8gb ram 256gb hard drive (ME865B/A). I returned mine yesterday under the 14 day returns, unfortunately the apple store was out of stock so now need to order from the website.

Hopefully apple will recognise this is an issue and come up with some kind of update. Definitely not what you would expect when spending £1250 on a laptop!

Mine is the 2,6 GHz/8gb ram/512gb hdd and it has the exact same problem...

Two times this has happened in the two days i have had it - first time i wast just clicking around in finder, second time was in Garage band. The screen just totally freezes and i need to do a reboot with the power key!!

Hope the problem is software related and will get fixed ASAP!!!

Just got off the phone with Apple tech support and they said there was nothing about this issue in their "database". So, I think more people need to call in so it gets picked up on their radar.

Yes, definitely! Please send in feedback, people. It will REALLY help.

I don't even own one of the new Haswell models (yet), so I sent feedback saying, "Apple, please fix this asap, so I can run out and spend $3000 on one of these!"

I think you're on to something. I want to buy an "ultimate" 13"—1TB SSD, 16GB RAM, i7—and I don't recall anyone posting in here with the keyboard/trackpad problem who has one of these machines.

Hi all

Just an update from me, so far today, no hangs and that is since I did a PRAM reset however I haven't had the laptop on very much so I'm probably speaking way too early.

I still haven't seen much on whether other laptops are suffering the same since installing mavericks now have I seen many posts about whether this also happens on a 15" mac.

One quick question hopefully someone will know. If I decide to keep my macbook assuming it to be a software/firmware issue that will be resolved sometime in the near future but it later turns out to be hardware issue I assume that will be covered under the standard 1 year warranty?

A good few years ago I did have a 17" MBP that had a graphics issue and it turned out to be a known problem and was duly corrected even though the laptop was out of warranty so I suspect Apple are generally pretty good at fixing these things. I just don't want to risk getting stuck with dodgy hardware though so if theres no update within the standard 14 days I guess I'll probably return mine if the error happens again.

One final thing though for those saying Apple must be aware... I assume like most companies a lot of people are away over the weekend so it may be a few days before the hear. I also believe they don't monitor these community pages so please make sure you let Apple know directly you are having this problem. I suspect we'll see a firmware update of some sort within the next week or so, at least I hope anyway
