New Retina Macbook pro 13 Haswell system hang/unresponsive

I just purchased this laptop 2.4gbh i5 13'' Retina Pro 13A2093 with all the updates installed including the efi. It wasn't freezing at all at first, now it is freezing a lot. It can be frozen with the mouse moving for up to 40 seconds. I appreciate people trying to find solutions but frankly I am not reinstalling my brand new computer. I am not going to not use flash and other stuff like that. I should be able to use this machine to my liking. This is unacceptable that there are any error logs in a brand new computer. I have one more day left to return this machine and I really don't know what to do or if this will ever be fixed by apple. I feel frustrated as this is my first MAC purchase after using every iphone since the 3g.

I just received my brand new 13" Retina MBP with the EFI fix already installed. My Keybboad/Trackpad got unresponsive after a few hours of using it.

Did anybody try to plugin in a USB-Device after the unresponsiveness occourred? Maybe this wakes up the USB hub.

So guys should we go ahead & buy this product or should we wait for the next hardware update ( that may be in June-July I guess ) or is it a problem with few out of million machines sold ? I am planning to put my hard earned money on late 2013 retina Macbook Pro 15" 2.3Ghz in next couple of weeks

I know it feels horrible when some expensive machine behaves like this ESPECIALLY MAC/APPLE PRODUCTS. I love this machine but skeptical to buy because in India there is no 14 day return period, no official Apple store but Apple authorised retailers.

I would go for it. Even though I've got the problem, I love my 15" retina MBP. I'm sure the problems whether they be hardware or software will ultimately get resolved either through software updates or hardware warranty.

Just bought a 13 inch pro with retina, and the EFI 1.3 is already there updated. I do not know if the problem gonna still there or not (although i did not get any freeze for now).

From the thread, the freeze does not only happen in late 2013 version, that tells me that maybe it is due to the new OS, but,,,, who knows.

Seeing other people have freezing problems with non-Haswell machines suggests to me that maybe it is Mavericks. Anyway, I believe Apple will refine the OS and so I took a leap of faith and ordered a 13" rMBP - didn't want to miss the $150 gift card deal today. I feel good about the decision since if there is a problem, I know I can bring it back in 14 days. It will arrive in 2 weeks. If I have any problems, I will report back.

I cannot agree you more. Bestbuy has $200 off, it is a good deal.

I upgraded my 17" 2010 MacBook Pro to Mavericks last week. My mac now freezes whenever I connect my iphone to its USB. Being an iphone developer this has become extremely frustrating doing system restarts whenever I connect a phone to the laptop's USB. I would assume this sort of issue would have been caught in the regression QA that was done for Mavericks. People need to be sent home for issues like this...

Can someone try these methods to crash a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro or any 2013 model Pro computer running OS X 10.8 or 10.9??

Method one:

I decided to do some additional testing. I am able to reproduce this problem on a plain version of Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion that I installed on a 64GB SD card. If I perform these steps (which I shared with you earlier):

1. Let system idle and wait for display to dim (based on power settings).

2. Wait a couple more seconds for screen to go black.

3. Wait a split second more for keyboard backlight to begin to fade.

4. Before keyboard backlight is completely off, press a key or swipe the trackpad (as if trying to prevent the system from sleeping, thus requiring re-entry of password).

Note this also works on OS X 10.9 and higher.

Method 2:

Oh and I can recreate this bug in one other simple method: quickly tap the power button on the Macbook Air to put it to sleep and then another key fairly quickly after that and the computer locks up just as badly as it does with four steps above in only two steps. I complained about the new behavior of the power button putting the Mac to sleep, but engineering blew me off describing this as a new behavior and feature. Sadly a number of people I know don't like it because they hit it accidentally when reaching for the delete key. Imaging them hitting the wrong key just right and losing their work. Ouch.

We might be better off building a Hackintosh instead of buying the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro.
