I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

I have the just released 15" rMBP (Mid 2014) the problem is here.

Sometimes when I plug in my Nexus 5 the keyboard and trackpad stops working. My external mouse connected to the left usb continues to work.

I managed to get the keyboard and trackpad to respond again by unplugging both the phone and mouse from both usbs and plugging the mouse back in.

Interesting.

I've got MBP Retina 13'' late 2013, bought right after the release and I never had this problem.

But today I've had it for the first time!! The trackpad and the keyboard do not respond!

However, I had my magic mouse and wireless keyboard connected, so didn't cause me many problems -- in fact I'm still working on it.

I've noticed a message coming in Console every time I touch the trackpad:

08/08/14 18:53:27,000 kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDebug: _deviceGetReport returned an error in configurePower

08/08/14 18:54:18,000 kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceGetReport - DeviceRequest for reportID 0x0 returned with result 0xe0004051 - retrying

My uptime is 29 days.

I bought one of the new Retina 13" models yesterday and i have had the problem twice already :-( Really frustrated. I of course can take it back but I really really would prefer to use OSX in general. Perhaps Apple leave me no choice :-( , they clearly are not bothered about fixing the problem. I respect the fact that Oli has written what he has but he needs to realise this problem is far from over and effects even the newest models. I don't see the point in buying the old pro model and some people have reported the same problem with the Air it would seem. So if one wants a mobile up-to-date option it would appear we are screwed.

Only other option is to see if Yosemite fixes the issue but far too risky to wait I am thinking when I can return it now for a refund.

hi guys,

i'm another rMBP 13" 2013 owner, i experience this bug almost everyday;

all of them while watching flash videos (youtube & vimeo) in full hd and having multiple tabs open, btw i've noticed that if i switch to 480p it'll freeze less, i tried using safari and firefox and both crash the same way.

i tested my computer with final cut, photoshop, illustrator, ableton live and serato, and they all work perfectly.

My specs. are:

512 SSD

8GB RAM

2.6 GHz intel i5

i keep my screen resolution at 1680x1050

EFI 1.3 was already on my rMBP when i bought it

Has someone here already tried the yosemite beta on a rMBP that has keyboard/touchpad freezing?

is it doing the same thing?

Hey guys,

I have the 13 Macbook Pro Haswell 2013 model. When they first released it i had this trackpad issue, later it was resolved by an software update. I recommend everyone to update to the current Mac osx 10.9.4. If the issue still exist, i recommend you give apple feedback via link below and contact apple care. One of the resolution for now is that. when it hangs (trackpad) insert a usb mouse and it should be all good again. Anyhow make sure you have the latest software update which is osx 10.9.4. This trackpad issue has been solved for retina-13 Late 2013 model but i am not aware of the problem yet on the 2014 model.

"this article has been archived and it's no longer update by Apple" ...well thanks Apple

"rare circumstances" ..you call that rare circumstances???

Resolution EFI Update 1.3?? ..for me it didn't work

i had like 5 ipod, 1 ipad, 4 iphones, 1 airport express and two macbooks

i only had issues with MacBooks:

-the first one was a mid 2010 that had the Nvidia GT330M and i wasn't able to use it with lion, with mountain lion seemed to work well, since mavericks when with 1 single crash i had my logic board blown..i had to replace my logic board..and i paid for it because it was out of warranty

-the second one is the rMBP that has again video issues (as mentioned few posts above)

That left me wondering if Apple still cares about their customers or if they only care about making money and not caring about their customers anymore.

Btw.:

has anyone with an affected rMBP tried the yosemite beta?

I also want to know if an affected Retina Macbook Pro Late 2013 is having the problem when Yosemite is installed! Does anyone know this?

Because when it isn't I will return my Macbook to the store and ask for a new one. BTW I think it's insane that when you buy a top of the line laptop and you can't do any live perfomance with it because of a bug! I encounter the problem very ofter when I use a USB external soundcard from TRAKTOR.

Those that do are bound by NDA not to discuss it, so I'm afraid you'll have to make up your own mind or wait another month or so to find out.

It would appear that they are still accepting users to the Yosemite Public Beta Program, if you really have to know now.
