I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

And it's time for the comminity issue update!

So far this is affecting everyone. There is no permanent fix. People have "temporary" fixes, but it's just a matter of time.

What can you do to make sure that you don't lose work?

  • Save work often
  • Carry a wired mouse in case
  • IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, avoid OSX Mavericks for now
  • Install Windows (Seriously, Windows doesn't have siad issue - OSX Mavericks Bug)

What have we learned so far? A temporary fix if Lockup Happens

  • Put computer to sleep, Wake up after 5-15 minutes
  • Plug in iPhone (Worked for some people)
  • Plug in a Wired mouse and save work
  • Set up Fast User Switching and switch users in the event of a lockup
  • Reset SMC (can be a 'temporary band aid' - problem will still come back)
  • Reset the PRAM (NVRAM) (Again, temporary, if works)
  • Index your hard drive manually with Finder

Please let me know if in the above I have missed something!

I was going to do a "Comminity issue update to the survey", but after 182 responses, we are basically nowhere.

These responses tell us the following:

Error happens:

  • Regardless of RAM (4/8/16GB)
  • Regardless of CPU (2.4/2.6/2.8 i5/i7)
  • Regardless of weather you purchased it online or in store
  • SSD Size (128/256/512GB and 1TB)

Someone said it's not Mavericks issue

Well, this is most likely false assumpution. The reason being is that, if this was a QC (Quality Control) Issue:

  • Not all models would experiance this
  • it would vary for custom orders/pre-built machines
  • non-13" Haswell rMPBs would NOT suffer from issues as well.
  • Would do the same under Windows

So, to sum it up....

This is a software issue! do not fear, Apple will fix it soon!

And remember, the comminity poll is in my signature (below!) remember to also submit a report to Apple with the appropriate link!

Thanks to all the members and community for helping us get this far!

Ok. Same story here. MacBookPro freezes.

Bought yesterday 13', 16 GB, 1TB.

I will return it in a couple days unless Apple provides a fix.

If you tweet about it, make sure to add @Tim_Cook, IMHO this is much worse than a stupid map applications for iOS. Also I like to add #TrackpadGate 🙂

If you open a support call, let Apple know you will return your new device.

It's my first MacBookPro and "It just works" feels like a slap in the face.

have a great day,

Sorry, how so? That link pertains to the GM build, which is NOT the same as the new build that was released through the app store, so that problem may have been discussed, but no solution has been reached, leaving us in the state that we are in.

More and more speculation, do we know anything new?

Sadly, no. This has been reported by a number of sites, however no official answer has been given by Apple.
