I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

Plugging in an iPhone does seem to 'unlock' the frozen trackpad and keyboard. In my experience it took up to 5 minutes before they unlocked though, so still less than ideal.

I've also been monitoring the console, and noted that the message many have posted here does stop appearing in the logs as long as the iPhone remains connected. I've also not had a freeze while the phone has been plugged in.

Having said that, I went for several hours yesterday without EITHER a phone plugged in or a freeze, so it's not definitive that the plugged in phone is preventing the freeze. I'll continue to monitor and update the thread though.

I plugged in a USB thumb drive and the annoying Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) messages stopped on the console. When I ejected the thumb drive logically there were still no messages. When I pulled the thumb drive out, the messages started again. Plugging the thumb drive in again stopped the messages and hopefully the lockups. Time will tell.

Apple either has crappy quality control or they released this and assumed the risk. Pretty pathetic.

I chatted with support. Please do the same. I costs you 3 minutes. The more cases Apple knows about, the sooner they will provide a fix.

Also tweet with #trackpadgate and and send it to your favourite Mac sites, and Mac papers.

I wouldn't recommend to drive to the store (unless you want to gamble with a replacement machine). Multiplying awareness helps most right now.

Has anyone tried the force quit keyboard shortcut when keyboard/trackpad freezes?

The key combination is

OPT+CMD+ESC

I received my new rMBP13 last Thursday, so maybe it's not long enough to test but it seems fine so far to me. But from my previuos experience of freezing keyboard/mouse (snow leopard to mountain lion on various machines), I found the force quit shortcut saves a lot of the could-have-been awful situations.

You'd not need to kill any application actually. Just press the combination, when the force quit window opens, your keyboard/tracpad will be responsive again.

The problems reported in this thread might not be relevant to my previous problems but the solution could still be relevant. My two cents. Of course, if I got the problem on my new rMBP13, I will try it and update my post.

I've received the following email from Apple's Senior Advisor:

"Thank you for your making me aware of this issue. It does look like other customers have submitted feedback as well. I will pass these links along with your case to our Developers as well. Please let me know if the issue occurs again on your system and please run any new Software Updates that may appear in the App Store.

Thank you for your patience on this matter."

So hopefully this will speeds things up a bit! I haven't had a freeze now in 3 days but still undecided on whether to return it or not.

Yup, had freeze to. Also saw 2 times a video glitch kind of thing. As if the videocard isn't good.

Dit hardware test but no problems.

The glitch is somthing like a minimum disformaty in a part of the screen for a fraction of a secon. Saw it 2 times.

When so many people have the freeze, it should be software related i guess and we should get an update soon.
