Q: New Retina Macbook pro 13 Haswell system hang/unresponsive

People on this forum are frustrated with Apple's lack of aknowledgment that the issue is widespread, no explaination of what the issue is, and no timeline for the fix.

I gave Apple the benefit of the doubt and exchanged my rMBP two times thinking that this forum may be a small statistical sample. But since I am still experiencing freeze problems on my 3rd rMDP 13" (supposedly from a new batch) and based on new reports in this thread, I am now convinced that the problem is widespread.

Apple, please:

1) acknowlege the problem,

2) explain the cause,

3) and give your loyal customers ETA on the bug fix.

Unless of course you are so confident that your customer base will not switch to MS Windows and instead pay more for the 15" rMBP.

Very cool, 1T USB drive.  Is yours the Kingston, still kinda pricey, and not all the tiny, but very cool!!!!

Just FYI to all: i'm experiencing another issue with this great 13" haswell machine - sudden freeze out of nothing, i was just reading PDF and listening to music via iTunes and BAM, black screen, no sound, just keyboard backlight was visible!

This is 3rd time, it also happened when i was bootcamped into win8.1 testing 3dmark

This must be joke not a reliable machine

I did not try it out myself, clemente718 wrote it happened several times while working with bootcamp.

If he reads that he may could describe it in further details. Would be helpful

This will be my last post for sure, nothing you said anieblys BTW.  I agree with you and others touting return it to send a message to Apple finance and Sr. Prod Execs (here's a secret; they've already had their collective ***** handed to them by Tim Cook, sshhhh don't tell anyone  ). 

If you need to have a functioning unit and are willing to wait for the SOFTWARE BASED FIX that will come out, I suggest using a Blutooth mouse.  I have been using my Apple Bt mouse, predominantly, since I bought this thing on Oct 30th., and 100% of the time there are NO FREEZES.  Bt uses completely different kernel drvier, f/w, and pathing.  This tells me that the problem is centered around the trackpad, since the keyboard is not hanging itself when using the Bt mouse.  Certain people, Supreem and sTrollic, should stop commenting on anything because they are not clueful.  Others on this thread, Oli..., Chris Sanderson, Varac, and some other folks I can't recall now, know what they're talking about...  I personally don't have time for this anymore....  Good luck to all in any event....  It's been real...  THIS is why I don't get on these **** forums very much...

So are there any new machines coming directly from china without that problem?

If yes: The problem got solved because it was a hardware issue in terms of other chip sets?!

If not: The problem is still there which means it is a software or firmware issue which is going to be fixed with the 10.9.1 update coming in 3 weeks?!

Read from MacRumors forum that there is a Macbook Pro EFI Firmware Update for rMBP 13" availabe that should fix the touchpad and keyboard freezes.

I am gonna to order mine.

I ordered my 512gb 13 inch retina on release day and it arrived the next day. I had many freezes, but also one dead pixel. My replacement machine was dispatched from China about a week later and this replacement has not had a single freeze so far.
