Can't Scroll In Mail after Mavericks update
Scrolling up or down in Mac Mail is not working - very odd.
Scrolling in all other apps is fine, however.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

It is, surprisingly, under "System Preferences/ACCESSIBILITY/mouse & trackpad/mouse options. It works for me.
Apparently it will come as a HUGE surprise to you, bob, that I quite simply do not have the same settings on my computer as you have on yours. Thus the repeated pleas for help. Thus the repeated corrections to all the others before you who've pointed me in directions available to them/you but not to me. Thus the continued pleas from me.
When I follow the trail you describe above, my only mouse option is to make it jerk faster or slower. Speed is irrelevant. Accuracy is what's missing.
Thanks for more useless snark.
Just updated to 10.9.3 and let's see what happens.
OK, so I turned off "scrolling with inertia" which I had set on to solve my non scrolling issue in mail. Then I updated to 10.9.3 and also found some files left over from when I had an anti virus program from Intego installed. I removed the program about a year ago but it did not get rid of those other files so I deleted those as well. I have had no scrolling issues now for the last ten days so looks like all is finally OK.
sregia's solution 'below' worked for me, thank you! It's was driving me nuts before.
Same thing here, sent Apple a bug report. Closing and reopening Apple Mail solved the issue only temporarily. Changing the settings to always show the scroll bars (System Preferences => General) as suggested seems to have worked for me, at least for the time being... Then again I'm not sure if this was the solution or that my Apple Mail froze unexpectedly shortly after I changed the setting and opening it again fixed the issue... One way or the other, it's been working for me for the past half hour or so (before, it would work only for a couple of minutes at a time).
I had the same exact problem as you. I turned the computer off and waited about 10 minutes, turned it back on again and all was fine. Hope this helps someone. Bastet 317
I also had this problem. After reading the posts, I decided to restart my mac. Guess what? Mail now scrolls. Give it a try.
Removing all other accounts than my main account and gmail account then turning mail off and then on again I was able to scroll in mail as before.

Eurika - how to scroll.
I just downloaded Mavericks and had a frustrating day as it changes the way your mouse handles. Sometimes I could get the side-bar but it wasn’t clear how I’d done it some of the time. I wasted lots of time. Anyway, put a finger at the top of your mouse (the very top) and just stroke down…. YES, are you feeling it? I never used my mouse like that before, but it solves the problem.
Glad to help
This fixed my problem, and good to know should do occasionally.
I had same problem. I fixed it by quitting the app and reopening.
My app is always open (and reopen all windows at startup) and I probably haven't actually quit and reopened since upgrading.
I found that when I clicked through my accounts it prompted me for an email for my gmail account (although it was still downloading messages) and after I entered my password it works.
Are you getting visible scroll bars now?
I've upgraded to whatever irrelevant OS name comes after Mavericks but have never wasted time with Mail again. I've installed MS Outlook and it works but I prefer to do without MS if Apple would work effectively once again.
Thanks for your input.
Hello, I have found a solution. In System preferences go to 'Mouse'.
Select 'More Gestures" and uncheck the three boxes therein.
My scrolling now works in mail.
Good Luck Barrie.
Thanks, Barry, for your suggestion. I did exactly what you suggested. Unfortunately, I don't have a "more gestures" option in the System Preferences/Mouse chain. I guess I'm stuck with MS Outlook, which, sad to admit, works more effectively now than Apple Mail.
