No sound out after wake up in Mavericks

I have updated to Mavericks three days ago.

But I find that there is no sound output (headphone &speaker) after sleep, even though for 1 second's sleep.

Everytime I need to restart the computer to obtain the sound again.

Someone list the following suggested solution, but it actually does not work:

"

Close all windows and quit all applications.

Click "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.

Select Computer, then Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences

Open "Audio" folder.

Right click these two files and select "Move to Trash".

com.apple.audio.DevicesSettings.plist

com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

Close the window. Restart the computer.

"

I really really hope someone can help me to solve this problems.

Many thanks!

So i tested 10.9.1 in many ways on my macbook air 11 inch late 2013 i7 8gb ram and the results are as follow:

- i updated my mac on battery power (i feel like i must mention this)

- before the update i had no sound after wake up the mac, if before the sleep i had my headphones plugged in (restart needed)

- after the update i tested the sleep and wake up with my headphone in my mac, powered by the power supply or by the battery and the PROBLEM is gone.....BUT...

- but an old problem emerged IF u put the mac to sleep with headphone plugged in and then in the sleep u take out the headphones, after u wake it up, there is NO SOUND again this time because he thinks you still have the headphones plugged in .....this problem is solved as easy as plugged in the headphones and take it out of course when the laptop is on!! Less annoying as before (no restart needed) but still a problem...

Submitted that last reply a little prematurely. . .

As soon as I plugged headphones I was blessed with the gray screen of death and the system crashed. Obviously, I wanted to see if this was reproducable. Now when I plug/unplug headphones, iTunes automatically opens and starts playing. Awesome. I'd rather have my external speakers work.

I'm not running Boom App some are referencing. The issue still occurs after creating a new admin account and logging in with that one. Restarting does not resolve the issue. Tried the toothpick idea and it worked for about 5 minutes.

Also tried:

$ sudo killall coreaudiod”

No joy

$ sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

$ sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

No joy

I've similar issue, I don't have audio on Safari after wake up. When I was listening to some music videos or interviews on YouTube, and I didn't close tabs before going away from laptop, after wake up I have issue. It's little bit confusing, that issue like this exists on Macs, which aren't cheap.

I have OS X 10.9.1, MacBook Pro Late 2013, i7 2,3GHz, 16GB, 512GB PCI-E and Nvidia dedicated graphics.

Hope Apple will fix it.

As suggested in some earlier comments, this worked for me:

$ sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

$ sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

$ sudo killall coreaudiod

For the record, I had tried plugging in headphones and removing them (didn't work), only killing coreaudiod (didn't work), only reloading AppleHDA.kext (didn't work). It finally did work when I ran the commands above - in the order presented above.

The only solution I've found for this issue is either holding alt+click on the speaker in the top right and change my audio driver to something other than "internal speakers" and then change it back. If that doesn't work then I will open "Audio Midi Setup". In the "Audio Window" there's a "configure speakers" button. Click that and test your speakers. This always gets sound to come out.

It's not a real solution as this sort of thing shouldn't happen at all and never has before Mavericks but it works for now I suppose...
