iMovie export

For whatever reason, the help files in Mavericks will not load in my iMac or I would search for the answer there. I am using the new iMovie (10) that comes with Mavericks. Prior to the Mavericks upgrade the export (share) to file would produce a .mov file. Now the export to file produces an .mp4 file. For my purpose .mov would be better. Is there a way to export to file as a .mov file instead of .mp4 ?

Thanks,

Todd

I've gone back to using iMovie 9.0.9, but now I have another issue.

I am unable to add iMovie 9.0.9 to the Launchpad.

  • iMovie 9.0.9 is in the Applications folder top level, but does not show up in Launchpad.
  • Launchpad's search window shows iMovie 10 but not iMovie 9.0.9
  • Dragging and dropping iMovie 9.0.9 over to the Launchpad icon in the Dock doesn't do anything

Any tips?

Hi,

In my original reply I told about my disappointment regarding iMovie 10.0.1 and the valuable time I lost with it. That part of my message was removed by Host. Obviously this Forum belongs to Apple and they have that right for editing messages though it was a surprise to see that happen to such extent.

However, a question of mine was also removed so I wanted to ask that again: How could I remove the iMovie 10.0.1 from my rMBP in such a way that all related components and registery settings are removed?

I had the same issue and this worked perfectly (and makes sense):

Rebuild the Launchpad database
The Launchpad is actually a component of the OS X Dock, which maintains a couple of databases that determine what applications are to be shown in Launchpad. If these become corrupt then it may not add new applications to Launchpad, or those that were part of Launchpad may not open when clicked or may simply be missing.
To overcome such problems, you can force the Dock to rebuild the Launchpad databases by removing them manually. The databases are in your user library, which you can get to by holding the Option key and choosing Library from the Go menu in the Finder. In here, open the Application Support > Dock folder and remove the files in there (they should have a long string of alphanumeric characters as names). After doing so, log out and log back in to your account, which will make the Dock and Launchpad reset and scan the Applications folders to repopulate Launchpad.

I am trying to figure out where my movie is. I see it in the theater, but it is not in my movie or anywhere else I can figure out. My YouTube share no longer works. I want to have a copy on a hard drive and not just iCloud, which is useless because many times I have no internet access. Any ideas? I want to have a .MOV and not Mpeg4.

I did not want this new program, there is little info on how to work it. The same for the upgrade of pages and keynote.

The HELP is awful.

TBH, apart from looking cooler and all these, iMovie 10 is significantly worse than iMovie 9. When it first came out, (I'm not 100% sure if this is true or not, but this is what I saw) green screen and couple of other features weren't implemented. I downloaded it pretty much as soon as it came out, and I didn't manage to figure out how to fade out audio until today. Seriously, it's just that tiny arrow at the end of the audio clip that allows you to fade out! I don't even think it's possible to fade in :/ I upload my videos made in iMovie to youtube pretty much all the time. Before, when I could export .mov, they would upload very fast, pretty much as fast as it would take to watch the video. Now, however, it takes about 3-4 times as long >.>
