Mavericks won't sleep when closing the lid

What I did was to repair permission using disk utility. Then it solve sleep problem. But it took around 45 sec to 1 minute to go sleep after closing the lid.

Try repair permission and verify disk a few more times until no problem found. Hope this helps.

If I go to security and settings... and choose imediately after sleep or close lid... it works.... if I chose a time... like 15min... it doesn't work.

I don't get it.

I found that it was the sharing of my internet connection through ethernet that was causing my MBP to stay awake. Unchecked it, and it went right to sleep.

It seems to me that after Mavericks upgrade the light stays on for 1 minute because it is writing memory on the disk; then it start sleeping...

Am I wrong?

Thank you underscoredot. I tried all these fixes, including the ones with Terminal in the Wired magazine article, and none worked until I found yours.

For others, here's what I did:

1. Click SYSTEM PREFERENCES

2. Click the SHARING icon.

3. Uncheck "INTERNET SHARING."

4. Close the SYSTEM PREFERENCES window.

5. Close the lid on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro.

6. Wait less than a minute, and the old pulse we've known to indicate sleep mode for so long was back in action.

For my iMac I have to disable bluetooth and it goes to sleep like normal....frustrating....

I have had this problem for over 2 years on my Late 2009 MacBook and this finally worked! Went right to sleep. Thank you.
